Dear PH's

My near side window (S3 Y1991) moved slowly and finally got stuck. I replaced the rubbers in the channels and doing that I removed the motor which seems to be working fine, as well as switch and connector and door mechanism. I also removed the front channel, mechanism and window for this job and wish I didn't rolleyes

Now with all put back, when trying to move the window manually with only the motor removed, I found that the window still moves too heavy in its new rubbers, and it seems that it runs against the second leg of the A frame where it bolts to the door. I do not see how I can solve this as the inner door thingy to which it is bolted seems to pushes it against the window. I would rather bolt it to the outside of the cavity, but then the door panel will not fit I presume.

Any of you guys have experience with this adjustment? After fettling a whole afternoon, could not make it work. Thank you in advance!!

If it is this bit giving you grief that's most strange, on mine there must be 10mm gap between it and the glass at the door top?

Does your door card have a little recess to clear it?

Yes that's the bit Phillpot. Door card has the recess (not fitted here)

Picture shows the bit outside the cavity (window not fitted here), it feels like this is the "natural" tensionless position, but it should be inside the cavity. In this position the door card would no longer fit.

Bit tricky to see in your photo but the top of the door inner skin sort of curls over on mine (gives it a bit of strength I guess) but where that window bar drops down it is cut out so the bar sits back tight to the inner face of the skin.

Time to start chopping some fibreglass!

Before chopping:
My S3c had the same problem. After taking the mechanism apart several times I found out that the nut of the "window securing system" was rubbing against one of the rails it runs on.
Turning the bolt 180 degrees solved the problem. The head of the bolt protrudes less than the captive nut and doesn't touch the rail.
Hope this makes sense.

Thanks rzrz,

I do not understand the bits you are referring to but we can always try in Dutch smile
