Hi,

It was a tight fit but managed to get all of the plants (in the trolley!) into the boot and home undamaged;

Cheers,
Carl

Lots of small bags and you can fit a small supermarket trolley's worth of stuff in there. Have to put up with People watching you in amazement as all the shopping disappears into the boot. When travelling a small cabin trolley bags fit with room for a couple of briefcases. My 111S boot was fractionally deeper than the 111R but both have been surprisingly practical.

Piccy

Not a great pic, but hope it helps a little?

If you're looking at the S1 (and boot space is important) you need to be careful as the early s1's had a boot bag (pictured) which means what you see through the opening is pretty much what you get.
Later they moved to the carpeted box design, which gives you loads more space in the wings (over the rear wheels etc)
This was the design that was carried over into the s2, although they spoilt the space slightly by putting the battery in the boot.

In a Europa you have enough space for all your gear, for two, on a 10 day camping trip to Monaco and back (which explains all the rain on the car). Or a meduim size hard suitcase will fit with no problems,. Luxury after the S1 Elise.

Some pics of the boot on mine. Have also included some of the space behind the seats, and there's space for a bag behind the pax footrest.

Just for reference, golf clubs fit in the boot - it goes back quite a bit, and there's space behind the wheel arches. Need a pencil bag if you want everything to fit in the boot though. I've gone on holiday with all the clubs, couple of rucksacks, shoes etc, Woods sit behind the seats.

Hope that helps.

Last year I had the following in my S1 Elise:

Boot

  • 2 12 litre scuba diving cylinders
  • Fins
  • A few clothes
Passenger seat

  • Folding camping chair
  • 14 kg of pouches full of lead shot and weight harness
  • Sleeping bag
  • Double air mattress
  • Buoyancy control device (a jacket with an inflatable bag that also secures the cylinder to your back)
  • 3 man dome tent
  • Drysuit
  • 2 x Holdall with clothes and smaller bits and pieces
On the way out from Manchester to Pwllheli (Lyn Peninsula, Northwest Wales), it was fine because everything was packed perfectly. The morning I was leaving, it pissed it down so everything was rammed in. One of the holdalls kept falling onto the gear stick all the way home, which was a tad annoying.

Umm on a side note -does anyone know if a Brompton would fit in the boot of an S2?

I ask as my car is currently at a mates garage (so I can't check myself!) and I need to cycle over to pick it up but then have to give said mate a lift somewhere so am hoping it will fit!

(I've never needed to put it in the boot before - been happy just shoving it in the passenger seat)

Worst case he will have to have a brompton on his lap!

Re: golf clubs

Yep as described it is possible with a pencil bag and I bought the latter for this reason. That said I have only bothered to use the boot once and that was as I had to give the lass a lift.

Its actually no use as unfortunately if you need to give a mate a lift and have golf clubs to fit - most likely you are playing golf with the mate and hence need to find a place for his/her golf clubs!

I once tried with the roof off to have a mate with his golf clubs on his lap but it was so uncomfortable we ended up taking a cab!

I had to Google 'Brompton'. Hopefully somebody may have already tried it, however, I doubt it. Looking at the picture on the website I think you will struggle. It looks like it may possibly fit in the space but getting it through the opening could be difficult.

Ah crap I think you're right.

It would fit in the boot I'd say but getting it through opening will be tricky as its too square folded.

Ah well - means a 3ish mile walk/run instead I guess.

Second car. I want to take my mountain bike on holiday with me this summer. In or on an Elise? rofl Ill put it in the estate and take that.

Britcar 24, 5foot tall wind break, camping chair, inflatable mattress & pump, 3 man tent, BBQ, full size cold box. I could have gone out and bought a smaller tent, taken less but if you have an estate why not take that. Tool for the job etc

OK, it looks a bit naff and you have to drill the body, but it might be worth a look if you really want to have your bike and Elise.

A slightly more conventional rack would also work....

S1 Elise here... No pic of the car full but 3 people camping in 2 Elises for a long weekend ment my car was the luggage car!

Pic of most of the luggage I carried:

Total list:
2 8-man tents
2 Helmets
Camera bag and tri-pod
Full Shoulder bag
Gas stove, gas, kettle and cookware
2 fold up BBQs
3 camping director chairs
2 camping lights
Camp bed
First aid kit
Small tool kit
And a few other bits and bobs!

Boot, passanger seat and footwell, behind the seats and rear window full to the gunnels!

I was quite surprised it all fitted considering we basically brought a small campsite with us! biggrin
