I've not seen a definitive answer to that. It would almost be more interesting to know the truth for certain, but then where is the fun in that?
There are photographs of everything being weighed on one of the Lotus forums (not SELOC). Can't remember which one it is though. Think it was somebody swapping from leccy back to manual - something unusual.

There's not a lot in it either way, but from the ones I saw weighed you definitely don't end up with a lighter car overall.

Brilliant marketing though, as it's one of the most repeated things I've seen about the Elise - despite the fact 99 per cent of people don't even appear to have seen any proof!

Shame Lotus hasn't been as efficient with the rest of its marketing / business since.

People actually weigh parts, what the heck am I getting into !

Well at least it's not like the TVR boys who share pictures of chassis with and without rust.....

Most of us don't. Most of us try and drive the thing.

Agreed, 120 bhp or 260 bhp, leccy windows or manual, who cares, get out on the road and enjoy it.

I guess it's difficult to truly create an image of a well set steering geometry ?
But a nice set of track gas / oil shocks is a different matter :-)
