Tried to fix matey's early S2 elise with a perished key fob button

See how the switch is offset
Buy a Smart fourtwo key fob button for 99p

Cut 2-3 mm off the centre spigot
Insert in here

Buy a numberplate screw cover

You'll need the left cover part only. Cut around it to reduce the size to roughly fit inside the button

Reassemble and check the button works - it's the height of the black piece inside the yellow button

Edited to add the black bit to always press the offset switch

Thanks for this, an excellent solution.

Originals are getting very difficult to get hold of these days, and aren't cheap when you do.

I think it might be worth buying a handful for the future.

Thanks again. Regards, Neil

The best bit is, when you see it in the flesh, it looks Lotus yellow. It could have been designed for it

Just spent £15 on a fob from meta!

Found with this and the pug button I bought that they fall through the hole after a while

If its one of these grey pug buttons it's too small

The smart button is a couple of mm larger and has a lip to hold it in the case

Where did you find the meta fob for £15?

Well found yes
I tried looking on their site and found nothing smash

It's probably worth it for £15 to save messing around and it's got a new style offset button

Just wanted to say thanks for this key fix even though it was posted a while ago - I've just repaired my spare S1 Exige key with the yellow Smart ForTwo button as shown - works a treat and looks great.
clap

Abacus still appear to have stock of the Meta M300 case but I'm a Yorkshireman so £2 for the button vs. £15 for a new case was a no-brainer biggrin

Apparently the modified keyfob is still working 3 years on too
Glad it helped smile
Did you use the number plate screw cap inside?

I did as I already had a few 'in stock' thumbup I tried without but it was a bit hit and miss - the centre spigot seemed to miss the offset switch after a few presses. Works great now.

Who would have know, that years on I would need the above advice!. I have ordered the parts to fix both my fobs as Abacus now want £150 for a blank key fob and key. There seems to be only one other supplier who I cannot seem to contact. Thank you so much the advice and I am excited to get the parts and fix the fobs. smile. Cost me £8 total !!
