Not a great paint match on the front NS wing to door area by the look of it, either.
I inquired about it and had a call from the dealer/owner. From the description it sounds like it's as per the original build sheet, where the 160 upgrade was carried out straight from the factory (by B&C?). It sounds like it's been kept completely original and recently had powdercoated suspension arms, etc to keep it nice.

Sounds good, but i think for my usage probably too nice/original. I'm after something that more track car than road car, where this sounds a bit too original/pampered for track use (to me at least)

Sounds like you're in the position me and a friend were in three years ago.

We bought a 99 Elise S1 with 38.5k on the clock up for 12k from a dealer, massive history file, 1 owner, really well looked after, but blistering to the paint on the front, waist seals needed replacing plus a few other bits. Deal done at £11k.

Swapped seats out for Corbeau Le Mans, harness bar + 5 point harnesses added, ITG induction kit, new rear suspension and a set of front tyres plus a service..ready to go! See pics in profile.

Had her three years, done loads of track days, hasn't missed a beat, gets driven enthusiastically to and from track, rear tyres finally need replacing, absolutely love it! Paint still needs sorting but not worth it for now.

Car gets a good service by Steve Gugliemo every season and a good look over whilst it's in.

Something like this is where I'd be, with an inspection and a fair deal with the owner. With some choice additions it would fill your brief nicely I'd say.

For approx £2.5k you can get the 160 kit fitted.

That's my one, I'm open to a deal but also am not desperate to get rid of it and lose a load of money in the process.

Looks great to me. I'd be definitely talking to you if in the market thumbup

Out of interest, we're looking at suspension powder coat & POR 15 on the mounts, if this is what you had done can you advise what this cost? We're getting varying prices...

I had a friend of my Brother's do the work for me, I bought all the bearings and other parts to freshen things up and he did all the dirty work as I'm a hopeless mechanic. He had the wishbones all shot-blasted and then painted the POR15 on directly once they'd been cleaned up, reading up about it they advise that you put it onto an untreated surface as it sticks better so I didn't have the wishbones powdercoated and just had them painted with it. Overall cost including getting everything off, shotblasting, painting, fitting the bearings and then re-fitting the new components was £475.

i wouldn't bother with powder coating either. blast and clean properly then black epoxy primer and a clear PU topcoat will match/outlast POR15 for longevity and give a miles better finish.

I've had my S1 for about 3 yrs. Paid 13k with 40kish miles, now on about 46k. Previous owner kept a meticulous history file and spent a chunk keeping it nice, S2 suspension, interior retrim etc. He also had the car off the road for a couple of years, so when i bought it had new tyres, he'd powder coated the wheels, C service etc.

Keep toying with letting it go as doesn't do many miles. However, tested the water last year and just had time wasters and people saying they'd give me 8k for it as thats what they paid last time they bought one. In the end I pulled the ad and gave up..

Classic car market is in a weird place off the back of all the mega rises seen, and does look to be cooling, however that doesn't mean prices automatically revert to what they were in 2010.

The S1 May struggle on paper as it doesn’t appear to be a fast or fast ish car anymore. Other cars like Boxsters feel much like a normal car to drive day to day but are still capable of being enjoyable on the right road.

An S1 is a compromise but they feel special all the time. In clothing terms an S1 is a pair of swim shorts on the beach, on a summer day. There is nothing better for the job. If you wander off the beach and into a restaurant....well you could keep the swim shorts on. But you’d probably rather not.

Many people into cars think they know what an S1 offers based on what they have read or heard from others. Like many things in life, they need to be experienced first hand. It’s a marmite car.

Given the low numbers made and the amount remaining I can’t see them ever getting to cheap 986 money.

Can anyone help me with a suitable asking price for the private sale of my S1? Car is 1997, nautilus blue, 60k miles, dyno proven 190bhp K Series, hard top, very clean car I've owned since 2001.

Not sure what the engine does to value. Its a Dave Andrews head, high lift cams, bigger valves etc, forged pistons, Individual throttle bodies and airbox with Emerald ECU. Full exhaust system upgrade from the engine down right to the sports exhaust.

Really don't know what is a fair price!

Blue! 97! pft, i'll give you £9k. Cant be worth any more than that. :P

In all seriousness, i would have thought £15k as a minimum.

:-)

Nautilus is genuinely a stunning colour. Pearlescent green/blue. I spent considerable time waiting for one to come along way back in 2001.

Well it took over two months but I sold my Elise. It was a great car and I wasn’t surprised it sold to the first chap who viewed it. The market is very slow at present. Maybe time of year combined with the Brexit Blues. Good luck to those who are also sellers. Don’t get disheartened if your sale seems lethargic. My buyer was a proper chap who didn’t mess around. They are out there.

The Elise S1 is slow-120bhp.

Well, I keep a S1 for track only. Very fast car on track, not a lot stays in front.

The standard car is better than most of us. Even road tyres work on track. Choose places like Cadwell, Blyton Park even Donington Park is good.

An exhaust upgrade does not make it quicker! Change the battery to a 6 kg one.

My track car has, standard brakes (non MMC), new standard toe links, ZZR tyrs, Koni LSS. and I have only just put Pipercam 270 in as I had two leaks in the head casting (firing line), and it is 20 yrs old. I sorted that by compacting the firing line as per Dave Andrews says, skimmed it. All done.

My clutch is on the way out (69 000 miles) so, upgrading the box to a B4 (111S).

I even have tracked a S1 road car with Koni reds, T1R tyres at Blyton, my passenger noticed I was only on about 4,500 rpm, (sometimes their track layout is very tight), we had such a hoot!

What other car can do this? The car out the box works.

Nice! mine is the same but 1998. Your engine sounds a nice upgrade, got to put an advantage over many. I track in France a lot, still sort after here. If clean, try £19,500 and wait. Johnny foreigner could well call!

Well I have had my very early 118bhp Elise for 17 years and have loved every moment of it.

Whilst I have owned it I have also owned various BMW's Audi's and an Aston Martin Vantage and the Elise is the only car I have ever been caught speeding in (twice).
I think this is because the Elise is a car that encourages the driver to drive properly. You can grab it by the scruff of the neck and really rag it without having to do outrageous speeds - illegal maybe but nothing that need take your license away or get you imprisoned.
Most modern performance cars just drive like a Golf before rewarding the driver, by which time they are reaching silly speeds. How people can really enjoy driving a Porsche, Ferrari or McLaren on the road I don't know

Looks to me like a way to get into an S1 elise with more power than the standard engine, without having to shell out another £4k for an S2 111S or R.

I get that it's not a real Sport 160, but the engine upgrade looks to be similar. I'm guessing it doesn't have any of the other Sport 160 upgrades such as gearbox or suspension though. And it is green...
Noticed it has a red top engine and its non vvc, does anyone have any information on this type of engine? Curious as I've never seen an Elise with it!

The point about faster stuff not being rewarding until you are pushing on is well made. At 60mph ish my S1 111S feels fast from the drivers seat. Same speed same road in my Boxster feels pedestrian.

In a 991 60 mph on a B road feels like walking.
