Elise - New Model?

There are quite a few press stories from 2017, when the Elise was 'facelifted' with the fancy gear selector, that suggest a completely new model was planned for 2020.
This obviously didn't happen as the configurator on the lotus website is largely as per the 2020 cars.
Is a new model still on the horizon and do we have any idea when it might arrive?

I'd have thought it'd be the Exige replacement given the Exige finishes this year. The Elise is still going for a while yet isn't it? I should think it's a good few years off.

Maybe, but one has to imagine the Elise will ultimately be built on the same platform anyway. With the key differentiator (the engine) vanishing, is there really any significant difference between an Elise and an Exige? ecain63 said:

OK so it seems the car Lotus has said would be theie last new ICE model, which everyone assumed would be a new Esprit, is actually an Elise/Evora replacement: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I think that rather depends what the new car is like. If it's replacing all of the current models as reported, it's going to be a fair bit heavier and more... mature than the current Elise. My guess is that in the short term it will cause a brief dip in the prices of newish Elises as some owners swap over, followed by a sustained rise as supply of the older cars starts to dry up due to write-offs and exports. Not dissimilar to the effect the S2 had on S1 prices, I guess. I think any such effects will be small, anyway.
On the basis that there are no more elises (well after the final, final, model closedown special addition), I think residuals will not suffer in the long term (other than as sentiment against ICE cars gets too great).
It's a fabulous(ly brave) move! Can three models at once this year with deliveries of the new one next year. Big balls!
Mind you it's really made me think about my prospective Evora Purchase. I don't tend to buy new cars, it's to much cost in depreciation for the privilege of speccing your own car, So I'll have to wait until probably early 2023 to be able to buy a used 131. I might still get an Evora when lockdown finishes, but go for an older one than planned to protect against depreciation risk! But maybe I'm over thinking it! But then as the 131 is going to be Evora-alike, perhaps I'd be better to go Exige now! And this is why Lotuses are so hard to buy. Or maybe screw it and get an Elan+2 130/5 and watch the new car thing unfold!

This could actually be really clever timing. Switching off production and retooling during a recession so the new car can be launched as things improve.
It seems to me that late S3's will hold value for as long as it takes to get the replacement on the market. What happens then depends on how good it is and how similar it is to the simplicity of the Elise.

As far as I can see, there is no Elise replacement coming. I think this new car is essentially the base model, then Lotus will go up and sideways (as it were) becoming a premium (electric) sports car brand - all much higher grade with that Lotus driving experience sizzle. I could be wrong, but that's how I read it!
