Hi everyone,

I've just posted this on The Lotus Forums but I thought I'd also post on here for some extra opinions.

I'm so excited to announce that I finally put a deposit down on a brand new orange 350 sport today. I am unbelievably excited and I can't wait to get back into the fold after owning an S2 Exige for 5 years (bought new in 2010 and sold in 2015) 😁

I've previously spoken on another thread about upgrading the exhaust but I wanted to see discuss a wider range of options that are available and peoples opinion/experiences of them. I understand I will have warranty issues if I change any cats (or even if I just go down the 2bular back box route) but I change the exhaust on every performance car I buy so it has to be done. I like a loud car, particularly with added drama like pops and bangs etc. All options come with a valve to make it quiet when desired which is great. So the current options are:

1) put a full 380/410 system on the car including the downpipe. This would involve buying a used 380/410 backbox if possible (to keep the costs down) and buy the downpipes from lotus. Positive from this is that it may retain the warranty as all parts are from lotus.

2) 2bular Road (the loud one) back box. Quite a popular option with others and not too expensive. Would this void the warranty? After speaking to someone from servicing at Oakmere they believe it would.

3) standard 350 back box and 2bular engine protection kit (with singular sports cat). Im very intrigued by this one because I like the standard rear trapezoid tip over the twin tip from 2bular. Anyone has this system? I suppose you could go further and have a decent exhaust place to alter the tubing in the 350 back box to make it a straight pipe. I understand warranty would be void with this

4) 2bular Road back box and engine protection kit (with singular sports cat) i believe this would be the Daddy of all choices in terms of volume and character but obviously very costly. Is it worth the price? And again I understand warranty would be void woth this.

Any experience and ideas on the above options would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

John

I assume you’ve heard the standard exhaust? It’s a very good note, IMO. Gets better with a few miles on the clock too. Standard exhaust will get you on quite a few tracks - albeit some you’ll need to short shift in places.
I’ve a tubular on my current Lotus, an Elise Cup and it’s good most of the time. Droney on the motorway. Loud, and some nice burbles and nice pops on the overrun.

Hi SELON

Thanks for your reply.

Yes I've heard it woth the standard exhaust and even though it sounds good I would like it to be louder. I won't be doing any track days so being too loud isn't an issue fortunately 🙂 I had a 2bular on my S2 Exige and I loved it, it had nice burbles and pops on that too 🙂

Hi I have had a 2bular road system back box on my car from new, the dealer transferred it from my old v6s, never had an issue with the warranty. Sounds fantastic when the valve is open, which is most of the time

Thanks for your reply. Did you ever have to claim anything on your engine through warranty during this time? I believe its only the warranty on the engine that would effected and not the warranty on the rest of the car.

Im glad you like the exhaust. Is it currently on a 350? Does it pop and bang much? Is it loud enough for you or would you prefer it to be louder?

Thanks

John

I think you are worrying too much. If you are not tracking the car then you're not stressing anything. If anything the 2bular system will be better than stock due to the flow rates. You're not changing the cats or headers so the risk you create in only changing the backbox is pretty much nil.

Just chill and enjoy the car. Or better still, put some track miles on it to appreciate how robust they are.

No not had any issues with the engine, done a couple of charity track days but generally the car is used spiritedly on the road. The exhaust is perfect, valve closed its just like the standard box but with it open it screams, pops and bangs.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Yes im sorry to come across as worrying too much but i was very unlicky with my S2 Exige. I owned it from brand new and the engine failed at only 16k miles 😕 I had never tracked the car and unfortunately the car was 4 years old at the time and out of warranty so I have a costly bill. Suppose you could say why change the exhaust at all and risk voiding the warranty after knowing that but I change the exhaust on every car I have and I love a loud exhaust so its worth the trade off and risk. I couldn't imagine having a standard exhaust on any performance car I ever own.

I feel if I'm going to mess up the warranty with the 2bular back box I may as well go full hog and get the engine protection kit too with singular sports exhaust 🙂

I think I'd be too scared to take my pride and joy on track but maybe I need to give it a go.

Thanks for your advice

John

Sounds great to me. Im excited to get one of the options in my original post on my car as soon as I get it (well, after its run in). Just need to decide which option i want 🙂

Thanks again

I fitted a 2Bular Road exhaust on my 2018 350 Sport.

It is mega.
I wouldn't want it any louder, and I like loud.
Lots of pops and bangs on part throttle/lifting off etc.
Ability to close the valve is nice.
Just make the change.
