Elise prices. What's going on?

Not necessarily the newer cars are easier to find buyers for and take less prep. The older cars are taking longer to sell but you have less outlay. Margins can be similar on a 60 or 30k car. It's hard to work on a percentage on cars you normally work on a minimum margin and adjust that for the cost/risk.
Noted, but presumably if you need to make 3-4-5-6k margin on selling a car then it’s presumably easier to do that on a 35-60k car, than it would be to do so on a 15-20k car?fridaypassion said:
Thats a woeful result for that car why ohh why oh why do people put Lotus cars on CC? They always bomb. Elise S3s are hard work but I would have paid more than 28 for a sprint.
Agreed: just found that sales price almost ridiculous, hopefully someone got a bargain.CarterDesk said:
Very weak price for the 220 S3 recently sold on Collecting Cars, 28k, it was described as a Sport 220 Sprint !
Don’t know why it was so cheap.
I tried to buy that car a few years ago from the owner before this one. Wrap a bit wonky in places but it’s a proper Sprint. I offered £37k. It sold for north of £40k.Don’t know why it was so cheap.
If I’d seen that advertised I’d have paid that for it (plus their commish) cheap car. Shows how bad Elises are doing.

Anyone know what nice, genuine, fairly original but not “garage queen” basic s1’s are selling for these days? Still see lots advertised at 15-20k but are they really swapping hands for that?
Depends on so much really but I would say 20k is absolutely apex of the market for a very low mileage one thats not a special/111S etc. It's all smoke and mirrors with the S1 cars they are hard to move nobody wants them but the owners all want family jewels money for them. Unless you have a low mileage special or something really very clean you'll find it a nightmare to sell. It's very rare that I would bother with an S1 they are just a waste of valuable floor space for us. The ones down south at 30k I have never seen them transact never seen a new owner pop up never dealt with a seller that bought one from there. Very strange and skews the market expectations.repaired examples.

An excellent buy at 28k. The good thing about auctions is you pay what the market actually values it at. Buy all mine from auctions.
Saw a nice s2 exige on collecting cars maybe a month or so back. It went for a much cheaper price than I’ve seen anywhere else.
CC is definitely not the market. It's a very narrow cross section of people that willSaw a nice s2 exige on collecting cars maybe a month or so back. It went for a much cheaper price than I’ve seen anywhere else.
Buy a completely unknown and unchecked car blind
Be happy with no warranty and no comebacks
Not need finance
Not need px
It's a miracle they sell anything to me really but there we go.

Well you'd think so but not always. There's a lot more competition amongst dealers for the more expensive cars as that are easier to sell and require less prep we all want them. The older cars of you look around now they are all private and random independent because there's no dealer competition. The old days of 5/6 specialists battling it out and buying all of the cars are long gone. Some people may rejoice at that but that lack of interest and competition is a huge contributing factor in the arse dropping out of the prices. It's amazing how much the landscape has changed over the last 18 months.

Picking it up Wednesday, expected it to sell for a lot more even for a dealer. I know Jon doesn’t buy from auctions but a lot of other dealers do.
Great looking car. From when I tried to buy it. Owner promised me first refusal then PX’d for a Heritage edition. What a downgrade! Call me when you want to sell it!

Probably always loved the 49 colours on elans.
Crazy good price, well done! I'd have bought it myself and resold it!
CC is not the place to sell rare Lotus' - S3 prices are a bit lower at the moment, and personally I don't think the wrap helps it on an S3, although I like the design on S2 Exiges.
I was offered £43,500 for my 2018 16,500 mile Sprint recently, but I'm not of a mind to sell currently. I think the prices will return and then some, but I've never been in it to make money, more to enjoy the car.

Cheers Rob. Car is even better than expected. Previous owner a real petrol head and looking at elans. Prefer the 2zz engine but still great to drive even in the damp weather we have at the moment. Headlights seem to be the worst of my 4 previous Elise so will be upgrading the bulbs. Brake pads will be replaced soon as I don’t like the feel of them.

Welcome, I really do think they're the sweet spot for Elise's. Lights are terrible and I need to fix a DRL as my passenger side one is half working. But otherwise it's such a brilliant thing.lj04 said:

Why did the guy not punt it around trade? I think I would have had a go with that even though the S3 market is a bit iffy. There was a guy made a sarcastic comment on my insta saying I don't buy Sprints but I was never offered one! fridaypassion said:

Possibly as you've been talking the Elise market down for months? Why didn't you bid on it in the auction at £28kSo many dealers either now only want to buy at rock bottom, or have customers continue to fund their stock on a SOR basis whilst they make a large margin.
