Ah well...
i supose if you re elise is your god you will resort to insults should it be critisised, but having lived next door to someone who thought it acceptable to make noise throughout the night and have him tell me "he was here first"... along with my dealing with the public in their own homes ..
nothing in this world suprises me and if my grammer/ spelling offends , Handbags at ten paces !!!!
All thoughts of ,worn seats at 15000,pitted aluminium, steamy windows, loose undertray, window rubbers that go down with the windows, headgasket worry, worn tyres , inefective brakes, wet interiour, detatched bonnet and engine hood and trying to find a good specialist not to mention lemming elise lovers who dish my experience put well behind me....

not sure how any of this makes me a poor driver...
not sure how any of this makes an as new car with 12000 on the clock and all available upgrades and a fortune spent on maintenance a poor example...
one thing that has become apparent, the majority arent always right, and i m satisfied i ve given a honest appraisal of an s1 elise and the warts people are able to forgive it...
take note if you re buying !!!

Lotus... you re elise sucks !!!
The reason for the reaction to your original post has nothing to do with your grammar or spelling, but may have something to do with telling everyone on a Lotus forum that their car sucks. As a number of previous posters have said, thank you for pointing out this fact, we honestly hadn't noticed and quite like them.
Your comment is also at odds with the vast majority of the motoring press and pretty much anyone else who has driven these cars.

Can I suggest that next time you want to give a balanced view of the world, in order to protect potential buyers from us misinformed fan boys, you consider how you put the message across. I have taken the liberty of rephrasing your original drivel into something a little more relevant and paletable.
MrDexter should have said:
"On the early S1 cars I found the MMC brakes disconcerting in the wet, they give almost no braking in wet conditions and I found them much worse than standard disks.
Also from my experience, the build quality of early cars wasn't great and these cars suffered from a number of problems, but as mentioned in the previous posts, these issues will have most likely been sorted on a well cared for example.
I don't have any direct experience of later cars so cannot comment further.
Hope my comments are useful.
Kindest Regards, Dexter"
As you will see I have written this response as a reply to a potential buyers enquiry rather than a Trolling headline.
Regards, Neil

I love these forums
Personally I not sure I can imagine life without Lotus, sure other cars do somethings better (like carry stuff) But nothing short of some exotic piece of kit can put a smile on your face so quickly.
I am not concerned I have the right car, I am concerned I dont have the right country to live in, the roads for the car and the heated garage for the car!!
Its about fitting your life round the Elise not the other way round ---> Not tell the GF!
Bring on the good weather, track days, banter with Lotus owners....
P.S Best day of my life so far is sitting around with 4 Lotus owners speaking to a 360 Stradale owner after some of the best track time of my life.
Happy Easter !

MrDexter shame you didn't buy my 1999 car, which I still have after 7years, the only time it has broken down, was a failed
coil pack.
I changed the tyres shortly after buying the car in 2003 as it still had the original perelli's with plenty of tread but no grip! 19k miles on clock. Changed tyres to eagle F1's which lasted until last year, front's were still way above the legal limit. Now have advants. 55k miles currently on clock.
Yes the roof leaks around the windows, if you don't adjust properly. The window steam up, but then so did all my old 70's and 80's cars I had.
The old S1 isn't for everyone, but to come here and slag it off after all this time is lame. If you bothered to read any previous posts regarding buying advice, you would have found plenty of owners giving sound honest advice and yes they talk about leaky roofs, seats, shocks, climbing in and out, etc

All part of the Experience - and if the OP had been put off buy this they should of got an S2. Obvious trollage.
My S1 Elise I used on Toyo T1s and despite my best efforts at playing drift-hero at every tackday I attended they lasted a good 8000 miles. Ain't no way a set of tyres will magically disappear in 3000.
Hell, even my Exige S1 on 048s got about 6000 out of its rears. You either trippin' or trollin' so ps off... either way.

You disappoint me George - 6000 miles! I murdered a set of 048's in 800miles trying to keep up with Neil McKeann at Silverstone. /Probably down to the nearly 3mm of toe in I had (each side) at the rear which caused the tyres to overheat.
As others have said, rapid tyre wear (road tyre gone in 3000miles) on an elise is usually down to geo, extreme driving (wheelspins etc) or both.

Stooie killed a set of tyres in one day at a walshy day. ...but he didnt blame Lotus!

Lotus... you re elise sucks !!!
Sorry you feel that way but I think that some of your expectations might have been a bit unrealistic for a small volume manufacturer. For example soft top leaks - that happens even in BMW soft tops and Mercedes.Lotus... you re elise sucks !!!
But that said you can but one again with confidence now. My S2 with Toyota engine has been totally reliable with the exception of the aircon which was assembled at the factory without one of the pipe seals. Not surprisingly, it lost gas double quick.
The hood doesnt leak, the seats are comfortable, brakes are excellent, the engine totally reliable. And it's still one of the most fun cars to drive that you can buy.
Interestingly none dispute the faults i ve listed with the s1 bar the mmc brakes which it appears few have any experience of use of....
many have blamed myself ,driving ability and grammar..
i ve listed facts, brought into question my experiance of lotus customer care and basically given a fair appraisil of a great car to drive being let down by the things i mention and the dangerous nature of wet mmc brakes which you tend to forget ... after a car wash or cruising at 70 on the motorway..
not sure why so much importance has been attached to the fact i left it 7 years, but in the market for a new car and a friend having bought an s2,i d have thought it obvious the past cars come to mind.... and its always good to have a lively debate...
Dust off your dashboards gentlemen !!

I have experience of MMC brakes. My first S1 had them, my second didn't. If (or more likely when) I decide to buy another S1, MMC brakes will be one of the features I'll be trying to hunt down.Yes, if you had been doing steady high speeds on a streaming wet motorway without touching the brakes, you needed to dab them before they became effective. Many performance brake pads have similar characteristics: it's part of the price you pay for having brakes that remain consistent once they get up to working temperature.
...But if you're driving at sustained high speed on a streaming wet motorway and you've left youself so little room that you need instant full bite from your brakes, then you're driving like a and you deserve to die. Along with the lift-off oversteer if you're completely incompetent at dealing with bends, you can think of it as Lotus' little contribution to human evolution.
Sadly, they failed to get you, but full credit to them for trying...
