Bringing a car back from the UK to sell

My two cents, for what it's worth...It's a risk, unless you know someone who wants a specific car.
Plenty of Uk imports being sold via dealers here, with warranty. If you give it a go, go with something you are prepared to live with or to sell below market price (obviously, you have the vrt saving to play with as margin).
Going with something rare might be in your favour (but you could be left with it too) e.g. a UK Alfa 4C was sold relatively quickly via a dealer, but you have to tax and insure it here for a year and anything special will hurt, especially if you are starting a fresh insurance policy. Road tax will hurt too e.g. my Tuscan costs four times as much to tax here and twice as much to insure despite being on a restricted mileage classic policy.

OP, I used to bring a lot of cars in from the UK back in college. Generally ex-fleet diesels with good spec, reasonable miles at a good discount. Back in the early 2000s the best mark up was in VW Golfs. If I was doing it these days, I'd say Nissan Qashqais or similar. All costs in, you're lucky to make 2,000 a car.
Your 6 month residency move is a different ballgame as you have a complete VRT bypass. In the scenario above, I was paying the VRT so needed to factor that into the price / profit. Given that VRT is emissions based, the reality is a high emissions car will net you the best saving relative to an IRE car. Not many folks in the 50k + market are going to buy your car off the driveway so I would hunt for an 'enthusiast car'. Examples, Audi RS4, VW Golf GTI & R even the Honda S2000.
