Str8Six have a lovely looking exhaust on their website. Might even be he same as ACTs, as really only JP exhausts make them for TVR Sags, T350s etc. Apparently it's straight through, no back bok, just a bit of wadding around the end cans yikes

Agree with Don about the build - go to the one ur happy with, spec, cost, warranty, etc. and trust. If you want to put GT cams in later, might even be able to do it yourself - i think clive f did his own.

just worth noting that RND`s cams are made for them by Kent cams, so no problems with quality on that front.

Mixing one firms followers with another set of cams is worrying me at the moment but I have used Kent in BMW sixes with no problems .

The engine had done 8000 miles since rebuild no running faults it used about 1 to 1 and half litres of oil per 1000 miles but I found the car ran perfect ,no noises.
I only found out when carrying out service/valveclearances the cams actually look ok I need to fully remove cams to check the followers will have report soon .

Out of interest are you doing this with the engine in situ?

I am doing this in situ, but the cleaning of the sump I will do last as I have to remove the box for that ,I need to replace the clutch anyway.

PetrolHeadPete did a full top end rebuild with engine in situ. Produced a mighty fine blog with pics of it iirc.

I am a newbee to this site, and am following this discussion with great interest. Even though we have VERY few TVR's here in the U.S., I have have been a TVR fan for years (ever since I first read about the Griffion when I was a youngster).

Anyway, I am now on a quest to have a Speed Six engine built by Dave at RND Engineering. The purpose of the particular engine is (as far as I can determine) rather unique. The engine is destined to be fitted in a Series 1 E Type. (Now, before anyone begins yelling "sacrilege", please understand the particular E Type it will be going into was the tragic recepient of a Ford V8 many years ago - and, yes, that WAS sacrilege, but I did not do it!)

In any event, Dave at RND is putting the engine together for me, AND the engine will be fitted with Webbers. Yes I know this will knock a few HP off of the output, but the objective is to have an engine with a modern designe head, a relatively short stroke, good power, light (the XK engines a very heavy) and still look relatively period correct. The Speed Six fills the bill perfectly. It is the correct size - right down to the fact that it will be 4 liters, or a tad more, it is a straight six,and it has the intake ports on the right side ot the head so it not only looks right but, equally importantly, sounds right and cuts a hundred pounds plus off of the weight of the car.

Does anyone in the group know of such a transplant being done in the UK?

In any event, I will keep you posted of the progress on the project. I know Dave is quite excited to do the Webber thing. It was actually his idea.

Cheers

Don

Without being an arse about it, I wish you luck - it sounds an interesting build.

It's a shame that some companies over here are so polarised, as a certain TVR company with a colour in its name is also a highly-regarded Jag specialist.

Keep us informed about what's happening please. It's always good to see people do something different from the norm.

Wow, cant wait to see the end result of this speed six transplant. Please, please keep us updated.
With regards to RND i have heard many good things about their redesign of the spd 6 , but as with most things in life the major players usually get all the limelight.driving

I agree, I've also been very impressed by Dave at RND having chatted to him about mine...
I'm another interested party, so please do update regularly!

Out of interest why do many owners seem to do this with engine in.
Is it not preferable to take the engine out ( Tuscan) ?
Seems all leave engine in and remove gearbox for clutch and sump, why do I not read engine outs ?

Thanks

Don't forget to get dyno figures printed up here when it's fully run-in and mapped :-)

What is the HO part of that?
Which camshafts have you gone for? I think Dave was recommending the Super Sports ones to me - ie, number 3 out of 4 in the extreme scale.
Like Red Spike, I'd be very interested to see the dyno results.
Also, are you haveing a new ECU?
Dave was recommending the OMEX as a lower cost alternative to the Syvecs. Most of the benefits (sequential firing, knock sensors) but no traction control (which is a bit clunky on the Syvecs anyway (IMO)).

I believe it's 'high output' I maybe wrong? It is number 4 out of 4 in the extreme scale (60 bhp over standard). Dave has updated details on his website, it's worth another look. The car only went in a few weeks ago, so it is early days yet, but I will definately post further details as the build progresses and once the car is run in.

I haven't opted for a new ECU, only due to budget contraints frown..it's quite easy for costs to start spiralling with these rebuilds! It was only supposed to go in for a new head!
