Haven't you been building a super fast engine since I had my T350 6-7 years ago??? wink can't imagine you've done many miles in it
I bought the car on 6 September 2006, and it broke down on 19 April 2007 after having covered 5000-ish miles in it myself.

About two years ago I drove the car for a few weeks, where the weak link proved to be the gearbox. Back to the drawing board.

Beginning of the year I got the call that the number I want (600hp) couldn't be achieved with the supercharger (got it up to 530-ish hp), so the call was made to go for a turbo install, for which I did set quite some high expectations...
Benny Boy i hear your selling your old slug ?

Nope. There is someone advertising a car as "the actual Swordfish car", but it's a Y reg... W998 AFR is NOT for sale.

Good to hear , when's your turbo ready for test ?

Cracking thread.

Love the high revving 4.0 with FFF2 and syvecs, it's a route in becoming quite interested in.

Did the turbo kit mentioned by Pascal ever come to fruition?

Turbo never happened. The owner and RG had a falling out. As far as I'm aware, the only forced induction speed six is the Str8-Six supercharged car. I did notice last year that they are offering that as a potential conversion....

The engine is still amazing, but it could be improved. Variable Cam Timing would help get over the 3k 'hump'. I'd love more displacement and better pistons (the car is still untouched on the bottom end - 22k miles and 11 years), but I'm waiting on that one.

Standard bottom end makes it all the more impressive imho.

I'm looking at building a forged bottom end, pistons and rods with crankshaft polished and balanced, with oil mods etc. Then with a FFF2 head and simplex/syvecs etc it could be revved. I love high revving engines, had a bike engines kit car that was so much fun to drive as a result of the power delivery. Might even get close to the 9 on he TVR rev counter!

What is the 3k hump? How might a forged bottom end help with getting the most out of the full package?

problem are the piston speeds you will have at high revs with the 4.0 and more worse with the 4.3/4.5.if it should be high rev would go with a 3.6 and get that rodded. 4.3/4.5 serve a different purpose as high revs.

That sounds really, really interesting. Almost exactly what I would be after....

Sorry, poor choice of words. When the engine 'comes on to cam' , it is really, really noticeable. Sub 3k it's lazy, above, it's like vtec kicked in, yo.

It is a question I have been exploring. A slight bore increase to ensure piston fits are perfect with newer, lighter, stronger better designed pistons, better bracing... I wouldn't want a massive capacity increase, but Doms work with the 4.3 as a very strong engine does make me think....

Just a strong, smooth engine pushing out 500bhp. Then I'd be happy.

Can RG offer this now considering their experts on it left to form TVR101?

We're on the same page. That's exactly what I'd like to build.

I don't want the power delivered lower than it already is, gives me a rush thrashing it through the range.

RND are doing a stroked and forged block delivered to your door, but I think I'd rather build it up myself, done it plenty in the past on all sorts of are so feel competent enough.

I'd love a listen at your engine and see what there like.

And the syvecs seems pretty good too!

Even at 4.0l it's still an oversquare engine, so thinking with the right components it would bring in peak power at 7500rpm ish. I do love the 3.6 nature of delivery, but forging it with FFF2 would be less worthwhile than a 4.0l.

Alex - no idea. I haven't chatted to them about that side for a while now...

Will - happy to show you around it any time. I'm Herts based, but should be getting myself to a few bits of the UK in it this year. It is an astonishing engine.

My favourite engine is the 3.6 because it is the one with the most I6 character of all of them. My experience of the FFF on a 4.0 is that it turns a 4.0 into an extreme version of the 3.6.

I also recall that Spitfire was getting some amazing figures out of a 3.6 so it's worth digging out his thread also.

I'd forgotten you'd migrated to a civilised part of the South East. biggrin

Ought to grab a summer beer at one of the many fine country pubs later in the year.

Thanks for the responses guys, it's the way I'd like to go with an engine over the next couple of years. My 3.6 is fine and has had a rebuild so no hurry.

If I manage to make it out to a meet or show then I'll take you up on the offer! I'm in west Cumbria, so a fair journey for most things car related.

Do many people have much experience of RND? Bottom end fully built could be of interest.

DA - Love to.

Willfin - I believe I am on the right side of the naming and shaming rules by saying RND have a chequered past. There are multiple threads on here, but they have finally supplied an engine to BlackSix in the USA and Gaksen uses their cams for his monster engine, which has passed mine by a healthy margin in the bhp stakes.

Have a look in the Wikis in this section for the Modified Speed Six Wiki V2.

@Don

from the technical side of things with the FF head you have the better engine. if those powerfull cars would be on the same dyno i don´t think
there will be much difference in numbers. didnt have the opportunity yet to experience the FF head in person but do think it´s a nice thing to have and changes the feel of the car.

@wilflfin

there are a lot of threads out there in regards of RND. maybe give dave a call. he is a nice chap to talk to.

Are you going to Horsepower at Burghley, in April?

My FFF isn't breathing quite the same as Don's so output is down a bit, but you're welcome to have a look.

Actually - are you heading up Don?
