Any chance that could be made a sticky in the general speed 6 forum instead? Might be easier to find.

Amazing to see how little performance increase people get from thousands of pounds of upgrades, compared to the noble guys I spent Saturday morning with at rockingham. The equivalent investment for them will see 100's of bhp improvement.

Chalk and cheese scenario in terms of what you can do with a speed six, but then again chalk and cheese cars smile

But the Noble boys are playing with turbochargers and boost. Big gains are always going to be more easily accessible.

Steve,

In a way I agree with you. 10.5 big ones for a gain of 80 odd hp at the fly is a lot of cash, however, drive one and you'll understand the difference really is far greater than the numbers suggest. The low down torque from even 1100rpm is amazing and the car will pull in any gear making overtaking a doddle.
Let me know when you have a free (and dry) weekend and we'll swap cars so you can try both back to back which is the best way to really see and feel the difference.

Tuscans still have their gearboxes in one piece also. How much does it cost to try & make the gearbox in the Noble handle the torque

This game has a name: How to get a hole in my piston!

And this happens when boost is over:

As long as the 5-speeder has the LSD, both boxes are fine for the standard outputs (and sensible increases), my open 5 speeder is still going strong at 32k and 380hp/380lbft. It'll be good for another 40hp or so the car made on the rollers but my tuner advised against going there due to the 'box, once the LSD is in then I'm good to go. It's only when you get over the 450 - 500hp mark then the gearboxes need upgrading.

wavey Not a hijack just adding some info on the discussion.

It cost £2600 to have my noble gearbox strengthened, modified, oil pumped and cooled. Runs 550 lb/ft.

Boost isn't that much in terms of how to make 611 bhp, 1.5 bar. If I just want 500bhp and 420 lb/ft press a button on the wheel and it drops to .9 bar.

The Sagaris feels like it could do with the extra beef but I don't think taking it beyond 450bhp at the flywheel will make it any more enjoyable and just cost more.

They are two very different cars both great at what they do.

In response to the rocket video, your probably right for many turbo cars but this doesn't look very laggy to me.

The last few stages of the engine rebuild

I believe Dom used a recon head so there are no photos of the work that goes into reconditioning a head (for now).

And the dressed down engine rebuild is done!:

Here's a vid of the lathe skiming of my rusty flywheel. To this I'll be adding a new updated clutch, and I'll be asking Power to check the slave clutch cylendar. There is no way I'm taking this engine and gearbox back out for the next 5+ years!:

more engine pics from my visit to Power yesterday to chat about the extra bit that were needed. This turned out to be things external to the engine. New clutch was needed, the fly wheel was put through the lathe and the clutch slave cylinder needed new seals.

the 4.3 stamp of TVR Power authenticity:

To ensure no metal fragments from the old engine (that was in the last stage of self destruction) I've checked the oil tank and the oil cooler for metal. I found these small sharpe little flakes of metal caught in the oil tank filter! That must be from the old cams and followers then! (there were obvious signs of wear.

I'd be putting on a new oil cooler and tank unless you can be 100% sure is totally clean.

I was thinking of doing that. I'm taking these parts to Power to use their high pressure cleaning tools. If they say buy new I'll certainly be taking their advice.

There is talk elsewhere about improved oil galleries to S6 head rebuilds. I know STR8SIX do this. Do Power?
