I’m in the process of getting a respray for my Tuscan in Cascade Violet. I wondered whether it is possible to spray the cam cover with this paint in situ? Is ordinary paint up to the job, or is a special heat resistant paint needed?

Standard base and clear can take the heat. You can always just about touch the cam cover.

I’d remove it though and prep it properly.

I'm assuming you've had this done by now but I agree with Matt. Best to remove it for the cleanest and best prepped job but standard paint can be used.
Mine was done during a full respray at S&D and still looks good (ignore the dust) over 2 years later.
