MBE Purge Valve Control

A bit of techie help needed...

Trying to work out if my fuel purge control valve is working correct. The valve is energised (opened) as soon as I turn the ignition on with the immobilser disarmed i.e fuel pump primed.

Does the valve stay open for a given time after the engine has started and then eventually close?The reason I ask it looks like my valve is always open and I can smell fuel around the cannister even with the engine running.

Hope someone can help...
