The options I'm looking at are Omex, Emerald and Syvecs. All will give me idle and full sequential control most give knock control which I'm advised if the engine is set up properly and the correct fuel used isn't a necessity.
And there the confusion starts to set in, the Syvecs and Omex are so powerful they have capacity for loads of stuff I'll never need and it got me to thinking would I be paying a premium for nothing.
Then I start to think the Syvecs has a greater resolution for tuning and that would make the car smoother and more driveable...and I go round in another circle.
The idea is to upgrade the ecu this year and baseline it, then possibly get an engine rebuild next year if I want more power.
Has anyone gone down this route and decided on one over the other?

First off I have to declare I supply and fit emerald ecus so naturally am biased towards that product.

What I can tell you about the emerald is that it now supports dual throttle / dual lambda with twin adaptive fuel tables so now is ahead of the OE fit MBE system in that it does everything the OE fit system does, but with dual throttle / widebands, and triple maps. As you already know, it's an open ecu as regards mapping it too, so you are not tied in to just a few mappers .. you can pretty much choose anyone.

This dual throttle / lambdas is a very recent addition/upgrade of the K6plus ecu and is so new that the very first car with this system fitted only left my workshop on Saturday. Not even emerald themselves have fitted one yet. The second version is in my workshop ready to be fitted to a car next week. Thanks to emerald for entrusting me to have this ecu before anyone else. Both these cars are ajp8 cars but I have a sp6 owner in the pipeline.

If you are interested please give me a call, but in the interest of fair play obviously speak to suppliers of other eucs too, it's just that emerald is the only one I supply so can't give you the lowdown on the other ecus available.

I would not look explicitly for the brand of the ECU, but for someone who is capable in mapping an ECU for the SpeedSix. Then this man should decide about the brand of the ECU, because he has the experience !

I think the experience/knowledge of the mapper is more important than the brand of the ECU.

Also think about (a) who will be looking after the car in future and (b) what happens when it comes to selling. I know of several ex TVR main dealers that won't buy cars with after-market ECU's after previous bad experiences and they don't have any staff with knowledge to fix.

Yes, modern ECU's can be better than the original, but so much depends on the quality of the installation and how close you are to someone who really understands the particular ECU to diagnose and fix any issues in 10+ years time.

^^ that might be a concern for some I agree.

Fortunately there are plenty of std cars still around for people to go that route if they want to. It's one good reason though to go with an ecu that's been around for a long time, with lots of mappers available.

You maybe wouldn't for instance choose autronics with only one uk dealer whereas you would be hard pressed to find a uk mapper who isn't familiar with mbe, omex, dta or emerald.

I’ve used Syvecs it’s a very good product. TVR101 can look after you aswell as mappers working out of Surrey Rolling Road, and other Syvecs suppliers across the south east.

Oli agreed and why I would only use someone with the experience with the specific ecu, and preferably with the straight 6. The reason for asking the question in the first place is it is really only Syvecs who ever get a mention on here by people like Matt and others from the 'modified' thread and why I was looking at them initially. So it is great when Jools comes on with his experience of Emerald.
