The starter motor on my 2003 Tamora is starting to get a bit sluggish. I'm fairly new to the speed 6 but quite handy with the spanners so want to save a few quid by replacing the starter myself!
I've tried to remove the airbox top by removing the 2 Allen screws and the 2 clips but it won't come off. There seems to be something else holding it that I can't see?
I've also removed a 6mm screw holding the bottom section at the front thinking that they may come off together but still nothing is budging!
Any clues what I am missing?

There is another clip an the rear of the airbox, you can reach it with your hand.

The lower part of the airbox is fixed with two screws vis-a-vis the engine and another screw at front with the air con compressor.

Just quote the Bosch part number from the parts wiki on the Speed 6 forum.

I did just that with my local motor factor, and got one for £100 on exchange basis. It was the 'original' BMW 316i (1.4 Kw) fitment, but on my 4.3 engine works just fine. I also renewed the heavy duty battery to starter cable as part of the 'exercise'. Much better cranking and starting now.

Nick.

Correction! Should be the Tuscan forum parts wiki.

I have ordered a starter motor from TVR parts, however, the short motor I have removed is 1.4kw I believe. I've actually ordered the 1.7kw which is 20mm longer and doesn't have the 2 screws on the end to mount the clutch bleed pipe and fuse holder. I'm assured it fits but need to do some fabrication work to mount the bits!!! I've also ordered a new fuse and holder for the sake of a fiver whilst everything is out. The longer 1.7kw starter was £100 +vat which is £35 cheaper than the short motor which I find odd but being a Yorkshireman, I'm not complaining!

I cant recall where my clutch bleed is mounted but I know its not on the starter, I also moved the fuse holder to the RHS inner wing so that I could access the fuse without having to remove the airbox. It was possible to do this on mine with the stock cables taking care to not introduce any rubbing issues that could short to earth (steering column) .
