Hi
First off excuse my punctuation etc and I hope I explain my self clearly .

I am i the early stages of looking at a Tuscan ,I love to read up and gather as much info as possible by trawling forums and talking to actual owners of the speed6 engine .

With my possible budget , I will be more looking at cars that have had a " Top end rebuild " rather than full engine rebuilds .

My question relates to will a " top end rebuild " be fairly reliable for yrs or is it kind of a temporary measure that will prob last say 20 K , I wont be looking to thrash the car or track day it and will be more interested in long touring trips , plus once I purchase will always let oil warm up first etc .

Or does it really just depend who done the top end rebuild ie the top TVR specialists that pop up regularly rather than just some other none related Speed6 builder .

Finally are there any signs or tests etc that I could do to help me with condition of engine rather than pieces of paper and actually talking to what ever company rebuilt the top end , or should i try to save more or stop overthinking it ?

Many thanks
D

I was in exactly the same position 12 months ago.

The car had been maintained by TrackvRoad for years and I knew it needed a rebuild.

I had the budget for a full rebuild, TrackVRoad advised that they strip it down and then make a decision.

Bottom end was pretty much perfect and required nothing spending on it, went full top end with throttles bodies rebuilt etc etc

I cant see the point of a full rebuild if its not needed but I was glad to have it fully checked over so at least my decision was a fully informed one

Just seen this thread Petrolhead 67 sorry you've had to wait so long for any replies.

If it needs just a top end then get one from one of the established places, mine has lasted about 8 years now and has been well used, I'll have to look up the mileage. There is no certainty with anything mechanical so the ideal would be a strip down and have an inspection as already said but that will be added expense of course.
Don't forget to get the half time bearing done at the same time.

I had a rebuild last year after 17 years and more than 70,000 km ≈ 44,000 miles on the clock.

We found out that the pistons, bore and crankshaft were in good condition. So we only changed wear and tear parts like bearings and pistonrings.

The car is used for daily commuting and long distance travel including high speed and high revs. smile

Just checked and my head was done 10 years and almost exactly 40k miles ago by Mat Smith using TVR Power. How time flies!
I realise my first answer did not address the original question, sorry.
