Hi All,

Been making my way through the Sagaris 'Bible' (Great stuff)

The only thing it doesn't touch on is the diagnostics side. To the question.

Does resetting the adaptives really make any difference in the long run at the 12k mile. What down sides are there if you never touch the adaptives. Does it run like crap after a while or is it just best practice and the motor will run just fine. What symptoms if any have people experienced?

Think the Serial cable is my next stop. Any recommendations?

Basically, if you do ANYTHING to the induction/ fuelling (or exhaust) - re-balancing throttles, new accelerator cable, replace throttle position potentiometers, replace lambda probes - etc. Then you must reset adaptives and throttle position.

The adaptives indicate whether the ECU is asking for more or less fuel.to run according to its mapping.

Resetting adaptives will just return to a 'base' value - - which then changes over time as the ECU 'diagnoses' what is being seen by the lambdas in terms of excess or under fuelling. You need a warm engine at idle rpm. You won't cause any malfunction by re-setting..
You do need the software and a laptop connected to the ECU to complete...I note your reference to a serial cable?

As Nick says the garage will need to reset the throttles and adaptives as part of their 12k setting up routine, but my advice is that (unless you have fixed something) do not reset the adaptives .. for some reason the first thing people want to do when they've hooked up any diagnostics to their tvr is to reset things which have been learned over many thousands of miles. If the engine is running fine there is no need to touch anything between services.

Many thanks Lads.

Yes if anyone has a link to a serial connecter they have used that works would be most appreciated. I believe there is a variation on some cars but I have had a look and it looks to be the common one. I will re read the thread concerned.

Thanks again.

Resetting the adaptives will zero out the entire correction map. If you've made a change that will affect a functioning map, it will do so gradually as you drive it anyway. There's no need to reset the map. UNLESS you've fixed a problem such as a vac leak or bad lambda sensor which would have caused the map to be full of nonsense and it will be quicker to just start again.
