I'm in the early planning stages of getting my Speed Six ITBs refurbished with sealed bearings etc but as I'm planning to do the removal and refit myself, I need to be able to balance the ITBs once I receive them back from the refurb. For those of you who have done this (balanced your ITBs), is this a suitable synchrometer?

Item Description said:
This is a new carburettor synchrometer SK type part number for accurate balancing of multiple Weber or Dellorto carburettors. It is made in Germany & unlike many balancers will not restrict the airflow when put into the rampipe & therefore give a false reading. Instructions are supplied. The tappered rubber insert is from 40mm to 55mm. The body is hardened plastic not metal.

Thats the one you need.

You may need to trim some of the rubber seal off as it’ll probably touch the butterfly.

Also your best to roughly tune the throttle openings with a feeler gauge at first to get your openings close to then fine tune with your synchrometer

Cheers for confirming Tommy - I'll get one on order. I've been reading back through old threads on synchronising them as well - advice on using a feeler gauge is appreciated! wavey

I find I get a better balance at around 2K or more. Try to go as high as you can until the neighbours freak, as long as you are not beyond full scale on the synchrometer, check again at idle but as we spend more time with a light throttle I take more notice of this. Get new springs for the linkages as these need all the boing-i-ness possible.

Cheers! Where would I get new springs from? I take it they are quite specific but are they a 'common' part?

Is it these you mean? https://partsfortvrs.com/tvr-parts/part-details/tv...

+1 on getting new springs. Having set up one or two sets of these, I've found that if you actually manage not to lose them when removing them, you will find they have gone weak and struggle to keep the linkages in check. Less than £10 a set delivered from Parts for Tvrs IIRC.

Regarding the synchrometer, the BK type one is a better fit as it is meant for 50-55mm chokes. The SK type will work, but as mentioned above, you may need to cut away dome of the rubber to get it to fit.

Cheers Andy!!
PfTVRs are £2.26 inc VAT each but have a ridiculous £8.95 P&P - adding 5 to my basket gives:

They trim the p&p on small orders where they can... give them a call.

This. If you speak to them they're very fair on delivery costs.
