Just literally installed a Aukey into a Hyundai Tuscon less than 4 hours ago. Cable being chunky is a sign of quality, which means more insulation against potential DAB interference (if any).

The right angled connector goes to the front, straight one to the back.

The customer didn’t have a SD card (left it at home) so the camera insisted on beeping every 2 seconds to warn of this, however this aside, unit seemed satisfactory for what the customer required which was simply an onboard witness when driving, with the camera coming on/off with ignition. No harder to fit than the other hundreds of dash cameras we fit.

Think the fitter is worrying about cable routing. A chunkier cable is harder to feed through the rubber conduits in the tailgate and harder to route the headliner, but as with anything, spend a little more time on it and all is achievable.

Thanks, Jay
question for Jay or any of those with a DR02 - having been checking positioning and thinking about installation and cable runs for it having just got one. The bit in bold regarding the rear camera cable - does it matter or affect things which way round it is? Reason for asking is that using it the other way seems to me 'tidier' as the 2 cables out of the front camera are the same and the rear becomes more compact with the side connector. Checking with all connected but not fitted into the car the rear camera seems to work okay, but am I going to get a problem.... right after I've fed several metres of cable through the car!?

Any recommendations for a device that can be moved from car to car easily? I'm thinking that rules out hard wiring, which I'm not keen on anyway.

It should be fine to install it whichever way around you like, I did my DR02D as per the instructions but that's just how I roll, I can't see why it would make any difference, it's just a power / signal cable.

thanks, that's what I thought, but the previous post implies otherwise! as you say, it's just a simple cable that is supposed to be bi-directional in most applications.

Got mine, installed. Works alright. nice and simple.

Every time the car starts it seems to turn the display on though. would rather have this off.
Have you checked the config menu? You can usually set how long the display stays on for after switch on.
Foud the option to turn off the screen after a min or so.

I'm thinking of getting a Blackvue DR750S-2CH (Including Power Magic Pro) installed in my BMW F31 touring, I've been quoted £190 to have it fitted by one of the local specialists in the area (Nottingham) does this price sound fair / reasonable for the amount of work involved as its a fair bit more than Sytner want to fit the Advanced Eye 2.0 kit.

If you were in his area Jay would want £120 & I can vouch for the quality of his & Gordon's installs. https://www.dash-camman.co.uk/services.html (scroll to package 3)

If you choose a cradle mount camera just put a second hard wire kit and cradle in the other car, it's then just a case of unplugging and sliding the camera off the mount, no alignment issues as the cradle is fixed. Blackvue/Thinkware as well as others will be mounted this way.

Hardwiring not an option.

Ok so still go with a cradle mount and leave the curly cable attached to the camera. Or go with a suction mount and just point it in the general direction, or go with a suction mount and a camera with a screen for easy alignment.

Following a situation where a cyclist, I'm now looking at dashcams.

Was looking on this site for reviews.

https://www.techradar.com/uk/news/best-dash-cam

Quite like the Cobra CDR 840. Price versus features, seems quite reasonable. Anyone got one ?

Quite like the Mio / Nextbase too - 1,2,3 all look good.

Being new to this world, what's the groups views on dashcams ?

This is one of the best quality dashcams currently available in low light and it's pretty cheap https://www.70mai.com/en/
I had a look at some night footage from this and it is very good, especially at not overexposing the central area where number plates reflect. Only downside for me is the 64GB max. capacity as I like to run 128GB cards, but quite often many of these dash cams will accept high capacity cards than specified. I also prefer capacity cams but not a deal breaker. For £80 it's worth a punt!
Just ordered one @ 47. Seems to be very good for price.

Damn it £40 on bang good

My dash cam stops recording if I am stopped at traffic lights …… is that normal?

I've tried a range of settings in different combinations.

I have this one. It was cheaper when I bought it & the case has faded badly from being in the sun all the time, the lense surround part is a bronze colour not dark grey.

Initial thought is that it's running motion detect all the time?

EDIT:

Looking for a front-and-back single unit dashcam suitable for a soft-top convertible. Would be hard-wired. What's a good shout these days? Wide angle and high framerate would be good.

In my "boring" car I have 2x Garmin 55 but that doesn't quite work for a soft-top. It's also quite overpriced IMO so probably wouldn't go same route again.

Isn't it recording all the time that the ignition is on? That seems rather strange if it isn't.

Sounds like you have the 12+live and the ACC wired the wrong way around. It thinks normal driving is parking mode. I would double check the wiring.

No, it doesnt have stop start. Dad has the same camera and it does the same as mine, he has stop / start.

The ignition / engine is on all the time.

No idea what 12+live / acc is but I have power from the camera into the fuse box tapped (??) into one that has permanent power.

Starting to think that its the hard wire kit. Over Christmas, the car didnt move for 8 or 9 days, come to start it .... dead, couldnt do a thing. Phoned Ford Assist who sent out AA to investigate. Quick charge of the battery & a long drive later, all ok. I though that it was supposed to cut off power when the voltage dropped below a certain number.
