so far the only thing missing is the dashcam lol
The device that will have potentially recorded them approaching the car, their conversations whilst in the car and where they may have stopped en-route to the Tracker testing spot. They'd have to be complete morons to have left it in the car.Scanning back, a number of other users of the Aukey DR02.
Been happy with it. However,; having had a couple of car changes and the windscreen sticky for the mount seemed impossible to remove. So am now without a mount for it. It would seem that Aukey can't be bothered to sell replacement mounts and some googling suggests the best that others have come up with is to 3D print a mount.
Any better ideas? or a spare mount someone would part with?
Otherwise it looks like I need a new dashcam as I can't attach my current one to a new car!

I’ve got, well had four DR02’s (following Techmoans recommendation) with rear cameras, one of them the power in socket fell into it, most odd.
I’ve found the best thing to remove the bracket when you get a new car is a plastic trim tool, but also when attaching not to press too firmly. I learnt from my own mistake removing another cameras bracket & knocking the rear view mirror off!
Not much help now I appreciate.
I’m not surprised they weren’t much help, when the motion sensor/OBD hardwire failed they were useless.
I think they were removed from Amazon for dodgy reviews or something.

Thanks, I know the first one was very firmly attached, didn't get a chance to try to remove the second one. I had noticed they didn't seem particularly available anymore, which puts me off a bit, especially with your comment.I’ve found the best thing to remove the bracket when you get a new car is a plastic trim tool, but also when attaching not to press too firmly. I think it sounds like a fresh start is in order, ho hum.

Have you got a pile of odd bits and bobs to
Started with a rigid piece of plastic from I can't remember or guess where now, shaped to the camera's base.
I found one of those spring steel screw-hole trim clips like this just needed a little filing down in order to slide into the retaining slot part on the camera, and could be persuaded to sit through the new plastic base plate, glued in place, then the camera would slide down onto it.
Then use a 3M pad (or whatever double0sdied stickies you've got to hand) to stick it on the windscreen as normal.
The camera was, to start with, a bit loose and wobbly - I added a couple of the padded/foamy sticky fixers between the base plate and the camera (only pulling one side off so they didn't stick the whole lot together) to take up the slack and it's been fine for 3 years or so since
A good couple of hours bodging - which I love anyway, and twice as much when it saves me binning something otherwise perfectly good and then having to spend to replace it!

As good as mine have been I think I’d tried something else, but since Techmoan doesn’t test themI think it sounds like a fresh start is in order, ho hum.
anymore & this thread has died I’m really unsure what to get. If you do replace it I’d be interested in what? Cheers

From a round-up review I saw recently, it seems like there's not a lot to pick between any of the lower mid-range and up cameras. There are only a few sensor chips in use, and so the results are often broadly similar even across big price differences - and price is no indicator of quality!anymore & this thread has died I’m really unsure what to get. I'd say find one with the features you want (eg parking mode, rear camera) and someone will have uploaded footage to YouTube from that camera - if it looks ok there, it'll likely be a bit better before YT compresses it and so perfectly useable.
Hi all
Thinking about getting a dashcam as been on the receving end of some pretty atrocious and dangerous driving recently. Had one crazy overtake from behind when I was in a 20mph school zone, even though there was oncoming traffic. Both myself and oncoming cars had to do emergency stops. Also had a G Wagon and Range Rover pull out right infront of me from a driveway and side turning, resulting in me having to do more full emergency stops otherwise there would definately had been hard contact.
Started looking at Which website and this thread re dash cams but noticed many of these seem to be suited to modern cars, but I drive a shed (1990's Avensis) so no new 'ports'. Not looking for something with all the bells and whistles, just something to record front and back and preferably no hard wiring, but not sure this is possible with an old car. Not bothered about wifi either, happy to record onto memory card and download.
Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated as always.
Thanks in advance

Old tech now for sure but if you just need the basics and have a cigarette lighter socket an Aukey DR02D setup can be had for around £60 now. Output is good enough to read number plates, the parking mode is useless but if it's just in-motion stuff you want it captures footage good enough to use as evidence if necessary.

Watched a few reviews on Youtube re the Aukey from some years ago and they seemed to be favourable, so tracked one down on Ebay for £58.
Many thanks

Hi all
Any recommendations please for a front/rear package for £150 budget one that's easy to get the footage from??? Preferably from The Amazon.
Been a long time since I bought one and haven't a Scoobie.
Cheers

I'm using a Nextbase 320XR, which is adequate but not brilliant. Needs a 64Gb card at least.Any recommendations please for a front/rear package for £150 budget one that's easy to get the footage from??? Preferably from The Amazon.

The VIOFO A129 Duo Dual Full HD might be worth a look, there's a 4K one too but it's an extra £100.Any recommendations please for a front/rear package for £150 budget one that's easy to get the footage from??? Preferably from The Amazon.

I’ve been weighing-up Viofo and Nextbase. I was leaning towards the Viofo A129 Plus Duo which can be bought with the hardwire kit and polarising filter for £201.24 on Amazon. I think an SD card would be about £10 - £20 on top.
Halfords currently have an offer on the Nextbase 522GW front and rear kit, and a 10% discount code. The kit can be supplied and fitted for £260, so about £40 - £50 more than the Viofo.
I wouldn’t know how to hardwire a dash cam myself. I might go for the Nextbase as Halfords will fit it and I’ll have my local branch to fall back on in case of a warranty claim. I’m not sure if there’d be issues with a warranty claim on the Viofo via the seller on Amazon.

I’ve just had a Road Angel Halo Pro fitted, seems decent enough and I like it doesn’t have a screen, although down side to that is you need to connect your phone to it to view video (basically connect to it via Wi-Fi).
Image quality looks decent and had it hard wired in so you can’t see any cables at all, not the most feature rich but does what you need a dash cam to do.
Currently £169 on their website https://www.roadangelgroup.com/products/road-angel... which isn’t cheap but still within mid range for a decent dash cam.
