Without trawling through this entire thread, has anyone a recommendation for a dashcam which has connectivity to an iphone for remote viewing? Don't really want a screen on the unit in the car, and the smaller the better. TIA

I think some of the later Transcend DrivePros do - but check.

We picked up a DrivePro cheaply in an Amazon sale a while back - great dashcam, but just so unwieldy.

For this reason we replaced it with a Viofo A119 V2, due to the wedge shape - which makes mounting it a much more discreet affair.
This cam has been in my Amazon cart for a week or so now.

The reason I haven't bought it yet is that even though it's as discrete as they come I'm paranoid about dashcams becoming the new Tom Tom in terms of scumbag currency

Am I being overly worried here?
The reality is I've yet to hear of them bring stolen

Cheers

If you go for the GPS version, it's really quick and easy to remove the camera.

That said, mines pretty hard to spot - the lens only just peeks out beneath the black hatching on the front screen around the mirror.

I've purchased quite a few dash cams over the past few years and have to say many of the wedge cameras really do blend in remarkably well behind the mirror.

The main thing to pay attention to when buying is to ensure that the camera is fitted with a capacitor and not a battery because hot temperatures hammer battery life, and generally they can't be changed easily!

How do you find the video quality in comparison?

Better - with the optional CPL.

£6.38 for a dashcam, got to be worth a pop at that price surely? I'm thinking if it's crap it can go in the back and do rear duties when I wouldn't otherwise bother with a rear camera.

For anyone interested, I noticed a decent deal in my local Costco.

Nextbase 412GW + Go Pack in a bundle for £69.97+VAT. Quite a bit cheaper than retail.

They seem to have had these in for ages but at a price that worked out higher than most online retailers once you added the VAT, good to see they have finally come up with a deal on them.

Thanks. I was looking for something that connects to a mifi device (or even has built in SIM card slot?) and allows remote viewing from an iPhone. I think this one just allows you to view the image when you're with the camera?

This super-cheap 3 camera unit keeps coming up in my Facebook feed, likely to be flawed in many ways at that price but maybe worth the risk as a spare or just something to mess with.

https://www.tomtop.com/p-k5571.html

Under £25 with free postage.

They also have this one for around £11.50

Ah yes OK. You do need to be with the camera and connect to its wifi to run the app.

Is there a modern day successor to the Ambrella MINI0803?

Mine has been great, but has died after 4 years. Looking to replace now.
The Mini 0806 is the latest of that line I think.

There is an 0906 with a rear facing camera too

So does such thing exist? i.e. something that I can watch remotely from away from the car?

Yes - the Blackvue DR650S and DR750S have a feature called Blackvue Cloud. This means that if your vehicle is parked outside your home and you can receive a adequate wifi signal in your driveway, you can connect up your cameras to your wifi and use the Blackvue App to Live view your cameras from anywhere in the world - we have a number of customers who work abroad and use the dash cameras as a sort of CCTV/Dash Camera to keep an eye on their property while away for a few days. You only get 10 minutes of Live viewing a day from Blackvue before they consider your uses more than just personal, at which point you would require to buy their monthly subscription of them.

In addition, you can also buy a mobile hotspot dongle, power it from a USB in the vehicle or get it hardwired in, you pay for a 4G data plan and you connect your dash cameras to the hotspot in the vehicle (i.e. the 4G sim in the vehicle). This option allows you to remotely view the cameras even if your car is away from your home/work wifi.

Thanks, J

Decent unit - we hardwired one of these in for a customer last week in a Tesla Model S, nifty and has a great magnetic mount, picture quality was clear from the brief play we had in it but can't comment on the picture quality at night which is usually where most dash cameras in this price range fall short.
