Garmin map update woes - any ideas?
Discussion
We have a Garmin Nuvi which is a couple of years old. It has guided us through Germany, Switzerland and into Italy a few times now and has been brilliant. In March we're away to France so I figured we ought to update the maps 'just in case'.
Last night I downloaded 'Garmin Express' to the lap top, followed the on-screen instructions and left the Garmin connected to the lap top for a few hours whilst the update took place.
This morning I have tried the sat-nav and it no longer has Switzerland or France available. It also suggested that if I left Lancashire at 8am I'd be in Nurburg in Germany by 9.50...
Obviously I'm wishing I hadn't tried to update the maps now - I've only managed to reduce functionality. Does anyone have any experience of this situation or how improve matters?
In anticipation...

Weird.... that model should have lifetime free map updates using the exact same maps that were on the unit when you bought it...
Did you have to select the mapping area manually in the express software before starting the update? if so, I'd go back through the update procedure again and confirm that all of Europe is selected.

I think you will find the biggest irony to your predicament is that the ever-increasing POI database is the problem. So you now will have the precise location of every burger joint throughout Europe.
The nitty gritty of new road construction, speed limits and cameras is not as well maintained as you might hope. With my Nuvi I was offered a Western Europe map to download. Which made a lot more sense that what you have ended up with.
I have recently bought a much newer model which runs faster, but it's route selection through Europe if you do not want to use Toll roads is absolutely rubbish compared to using Google Maps and Navigate on my phone.

Just a quick update on this:
After receiving a PM from a kind PH'er, I tried the update process again. This time it seems to have worked ok and the sat nav appears to be happy to find addresses in the UK, Germany etc (my missing countries have returned).
As before, we're off to France soon so that'll provide a real test...
Thanks for all your replies. Appreciated.
