Not sure if this is the right section to post but recently after having an argument with a speed camera and finding it almost impossible to keep track of where they are popping up and snapping in Av speed checks or over Motorway gantries I was told WAZE is very good for camera alerts.

Do users find that the case? Does it cover all cameras such as HADECs etc? It seems OK no Navigation but cameras for me would be a beneft. Not used it that much to be fair so not sure if its popping up all camera options.

PS the first person to say if you don't speed you never need to look for them, please start another thread. I don't recklessly speed but i feel a war is being waged on even those sensible ones that make an occasional error of a few MPH. So answers relating to WAZE only please.

I did a search but it seemed i couldnt find a recent update on the app

It's only as good as the information input by users. That goes for traffic information and for cameras.

People are good at submitting camera sites, so most HADECS are included, but there is no guarantee that a particular camera is there, so you need to keep your eyes open.

Traffic information is generally pretty good, but there didn't seem to be anybody putting in traffic information on the M6 between Birmingham and the potteries last Friday afternoon, apart from me.

Waze is good. Seems to have most cameras on it. I think it might be owned or controlled by google now so may share some of their data (or may not). Always seems to know about the traffic levels in my area, but can sometimes send you down a tiny backstreet to save you 4 seconds if you're not paying attention.

Waze is great, seems to have all the static cameras and users are pretty quick to upload any mobile units too.

Am often amazed by how it will notify me that there is a vehicle stopped on the hard shoulder on 300m and sure enough, there it is. I do use it primarily around the M25/M11 area though so I presume there are a lot of users in the area updating frequently.

Is that the TOM TOM speed camera one of the Go which allows 50 free miles a month?

waze is an absolute nightmare to use (as are similar) if trying to load over data in an area of poor reception...
Up in Scotland earlier this year we had Waze / Google Maps / Maps.me / a few others all trying to load a navigation route - Waze was the worst by a long way, failing to connect to the server after trying for 20+ minutes - eventually we arrived at our destination and Waze had still not connected...

there are lots of good things, but when a sat nav system tries to get you to build points and profile like a computer game then it has totally lost the plot

so it is on the phone, but rarely gets used...

Waze is good, I use it mainly for the speedometer and speed limit notifications, alerts are good too. I much preferred Google navigation routes colour coding so it was easy to see the jams up ahead and the consequent time they added to the route, a combination of both would beperfect but I'll stick with Waze for now.

Waze is awesome, you're late to the party already.
Never had a speeding ticket and I do enjoy "making progress".

Don't think I've ever seen a speed camera which wasn't shown on Waze, although I live in London so there's loads of users (and traffic frown)

No, it's free. When you pass a camera, it asks you to confirm it's there. If you see one that's not on their database, you report it. This way, they can build up the database for satnavs at no cost to themselves.

Waze is the best for traffic and cameras, I do get the feeling though that sometimes it's sending me through a half hour rat run to save 30 seconds when really I'd rather have just sat there.

Waze is great, but if you are going into an area of poor/no reception and are likely to change route, then use Google Maps with downloaded maps instead.

On Saturday, Waze wanted to send us down a road with an "Unsuitable for motor vehicles" sign somewhere in the North East of the Dales. with no reception In the X5, I might have chanced it, but not in the Aston. The ancient Aston (Volvo) SatNav performed a sterling backup role.

It was actually pretty decent in the sense that if you use it as a sat nav, it gives you alerts along your route well in advance if there is a mobile camera/accident etc.

Let down by the overly busy interface though. I switched back to the cleaner, simpler, Google maps.

Although Google maps is starting to have the opposite issue of being too minimalist and getting rid of shortcuts/buttons by hiding them away or burying them in sub menus.

Loads of users is the key. I was trying to get from SW17 to the M40 westbound one Sunday last summer. It was, unbeknown to me, the day of a mass bike ride from somewhere in London to somewhere in Surrey and hundreds of roads were closed, major and minor. Waze was very poor at guiding me around the mess because there were so many closures and so few users who thought it necessary to add the details. Had it been a major pile-up on the M4 (this happened too on the same route another day) then Waze would have been invaluable. Now it has stopped crashing on my phone I use it above TomTom and Jaguar Navigation because of the live updates and re-routing. Okay so you do see some 'interesting' by-roads full of parked cars and speed humps, but it is a millisecond quicker...

I loved waze, until i realised anyone with your phone number and the app can pretty much stalk you, other than that, it's brilliant.

I love Waze. I use it mainly for the live traffic and real time user reports. It's brilliant.

If you plan to get it, don't just take from it, give back too. If you see something report it, if you see something already reported give it a 'like'. It's only as good as the users that use it.

Today was the first time I saw a Police speed van that wasn't already tagged so I tagged it on the map myself and hopefully others will benefit from that. It's the modern day, flashing your headlights like mad to make people slow down! There was one time when I was in Cornwall and I was at 70 on an NSL dual carriageway, Waze was showing Police up ahead so I stuck to the speed limit and people were roaring past me, .3 miles up the road and on the bend there was the camera van...

As for the navigation it's fantastic, when using the TomTom or in-car Nav it doesn't take into account traffic and you usually end up arriving after the planned ETA wheres with Waze, I have ALWAYS arrived as per ETA even if there's been a little traffic.

I do have google maps but it seems to lack camera notifications. I prefer it as a mapping tool but WAZE seems to have a little more. I might be able to run two apps at once such as Google Maps and TOM TOM maps, so long as the latter runs in the background.
I am not techy !!!

+1
I gave up on Waze because I was constantly waiting for it to plan a route in areas of less-than-4g signal. Google Maps all the way now. (I realise this doesn't help the OP in the search for speed cameras though. Sorry.)

A former girlfriend tried to get me into Waze to use around LA. I thought it looked too Fisher Price.

Back in the UK I started using it and I have to say it's brilliant. I know London really well and it doesn't feel right to just totally accept the Waze instructions, especially as an ex courier and taxi driver.

But now I do and almost always arrive before or on the arrival time first calculated an hour or more at the beginning of the journey.

It's also showed me excellent rat runs local to me that I didn't know existed.

I suppose the problems will start when everyone is using it.
