Has anyone fitted one recently? Was asked to get one and fit for someone, started looking at ebay/amazon and their reviews and there are SOO many of them, most of them look soo chinsy and poorly made that they would stop working really fast.. Has anyone done research on this and maybe can suggest something that is decent quality and not that expensive? Proper china stuff with questionable quality goes for like 15-20 on fleabay( camera+LCD) , is there anything decent for lets say double that?

I've purchased several dash cams over the years and would recommend you take a look at Mobius which is listed as an 'Action Cam' so isn't supplied with any mounts as standard and doesn't have an LCD screen, the manufacturer is based in China and sells direct from his Ebay shop as the user eletoponline365, link is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mobius-ActionCam-Full-HD...

The Mobius is supplied as standard with a pretty decent battery, though you can request a super-capacitor at the ordering stage which is well worth fitting because lithium batteries do not like heat and sunlight. Only drawback to this camera is that there is no LCD screen fitted and it's a bit fiddly to setup.

Now if you want an easier dashcam to fit and forget take a look at the wedge type dashcams which work virtually straight out of the box, I purchased a AutoVox dashcam last year and have to say it's pretty good. It's sold on Amazon and can be ordered from the manufacturer who is listed as an alternative seller to the right-hand side of the listing https://www.amazon.co.uk/AUTO-VOX-170¡ãS... Being a dashcam means that it really does work straight out of the box with very little fiddling around with the settings. It is supplied with a capacitor as standard so no batteries are fitted which is good.

By far the best site to visit for advice about dashcams is www.dashcamtalk.com and they do actually provide a 'Best dash cams' list for 2017 and 2016, though the forum does provide a lot of very useful info if you get stuck.

Oh, and buy a large capacity SD card because dashcams do eat memory at an alarming rate!

Hope this helps...

EDITED TO ADD: there is a very large dashcam thread already running on PH, might be an idea to take a look over the posts made on it: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I'm going to piggyback on this with the same question, but also:
1) Not having the "parking guide" lines in the image by default (or being able to disable them).
2) Able to choose whether the image is mirrored or not.

Does this exist?

I doubt it. What on earth do dashcams have to do with a back-up camera?
