Car stereo repairs?
Discussion
Anyone out there that can repair a Sony car stereo. A few years old but good sound output and features.
Cdx ca750
Cdx m770
Both have dead radio tuners in that they won’t pick up a radio signal.
I’m not interested in buying new ones. Just wondered if there is someone with the skills to repair the units?
Cheers
Rob

Hi,
What brand are these model numbers for ?
Sony?
Are they UK specification head units? if not, then if perhaps USA ones, they have a different FM stepping tuning range, which might be why you can't pickup clear UK stations. If you aren't getting any sound output on the radio function then I'd also perhaps suggest contacting Sony (or the brand technical support) to ask if they have authorized repair centres/specialists who'll be capable of determining the fault and potentially fixing it. If not, then you might have to have the units looked at by other specialist repair centres to see if the fault can be fixed - although my thought is that it'd cost way too much compared to the value of the head units thus making it uneconomical to repair.
Cheers, Dennis!

I knew a spark at work who could fault find individual components and did repair a unit for me. He has now retired and moved away so that option isn’t available anymore.
Looks like more scrap for the land fill then

There are various options if you google "sony car stereo repair", but the cost may be more than its worth.I knew a spark at work who could fault find individual components and did repair a unit for me. He has now retired and moved away so that option isn’t available anymore.

I find all the current new single din headunits a bit naff. Seems to be about how many phones connects to it or how many colours are available to light them up.
Probably showing my age but it’s all utter useless tech.
I would be happy to pay to repair so called obsolete units, but we now live in a throw away society and hence those skills of fix and repair seem to be disappearing.
The unit I did have repaired was down to a single faulty chip that prevented the tuner from working. I find it frustrating to say the least, but c’est la vie lol

If you really want an older unit, why not just replace the broken one with an eBay jobby? I'd hazard it will be much cheaper than getting a repair. There are some sellers there who seem to specialise in refurbed older radios.
I do look for a suitable good second hand unit. Usually the lesser models are offered or those with the ribbon to connect a flip front. If the ribbon is replaced it blows the tuner. Going round in circles like lol. Gassing Station | In-Car Electronics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
