Reading the posts on here this request may be a little technical!

I have a Renault Spider with sort of gull wing doors. I have modified and added electric to the doors to allow courtesy lights etc to be fitted.

Now I may get round to showing the car - there are not many left and if I do I would probably show with the doors open/up.

I therefore want to add some kind of delay relay such that when the ignition is off the courtesy lights only stay on for say 10 mins before automatically switching off. Now if the ignition was switched on or the door closed and opened again I would want the relay to be reset.

I have bought a Nagares TLT/5-12 relay (5 pin) which is a 12 minute delay relay so ideal from a time perspective but unsure if it is possible to wire so that it keeps the light on if the ignition is on or switches off (after a delay) with the ignition off and both the door closing or switching on the ignition reset the relay or indeed switching off the ignition starts the delay timer.

I am probably over complicating the situation but the bottom line is I don't want to leave the doors up and the the courtesy lights on for a long period of time.

I have done some research and would start with the following wiring to the numbered pins:

1 Door earth swtich
2 Ignition 12v
3 12v constant
4 Not sure needed!
5 Door light 12v

Shout if you need photos as I need little excuse to post pictures :-).

Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't a hidden on/off switch in the circuit be easier? Or courtesy lights with a built in switch?

Already have a hidden switch but want to add a timer relay as I will undoubtedly leave it switched on. The courtesy lights are LEDs so low power consumption and less of an issue but would also just like to switch them off automatically.

Thanks - I was looking at those on eBay. I will have another look for the stereo.

The door lights are done using the Nagares TLT/5-12 relay (5 pin).

1 12v constant
2 Door earth (from door switch and then back out to the door light)
3 12v constant
4 12v constant
5 Door light 12v

They work fine with pin 5 being the timed live feed and the door earth switch to pin 2 resets the timer so I either close the doors to reset or leave them up for 12 mins after which they switch off.

Now to think about the stereo.

Think this should work:

I have the standard relays - just need to buy another timer relay.

The only part I am unsure about is having 2 feeds to Pin 86 on the Amp relay. When the ignition is on this will be fed by the 1st relay (Pin 87). When the ignition is off then the relay switches the power to the timer relay (Pin 87a) which will also feed Pin 86 on the Amp relay until the time is up and then there is no feed at all.

Switching the ignition or the stereo switch should reset the timer.

Will leave here for comment/criticism but remember I am an accountant not an auto electrician!
