Upgrading headlights to LED
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I own an old good LandRover Defender (1995), and it is being restored. I did a lot of job about its body, suspension and electrical system. Now, I am planning to replace the headlights. Well, first I just wanted to have mine polished, but after I saw that they were not only scratched, but the chrome plating that's inside started peeling off. So I decided to replace the lights, and after I did a research on that, I decided to go with the LED lights (sealed beams). As the universal 7-inch ones should fit the right way. Now, I am concerned about the electrical part of the process. Will the Def recognize LEDs and will they work okay? Also, won't those LED overheat being connected to the electrical system of the older vehicle...?
Any help's appreciated.

It should just be plug and play if your Landies loom is ok. Your worrying over nothing. 12 volts is 12volts and hasn't changed over the years. The LED lamps usually pull less current (as they tend to be lower wattage rated) so should give the wiring an easier time than a high watt halogen bulb/lamp.
If you do fit them, post up a report here, I've seen those LED type 7 inch units and I'm not convinced they offer any sort of lighting upgrade! Personally I think you'd be better with new lamps that take normal halogen bulbs, then maybe add some relays to ensure they're getting the full 12volts.

Absolutely, I will post back even if they won't work the right way and I will have to sell them on ebay... At least that's what I usually do if I buy something wrong. Now, you know, first I thought I'll just polish the lights I have and then will install a set of new silverstars perhaps there.... But then I was browsing for body mod ideas, and came across this Bronco:
Frankly, I did not really like the way he did the body and I've got no clue what's so cool about a vehicle without the door handles, yet I liked the headlights, and thought that the same 7 inch headlights set would work for me as well. Yet, I was not sure if the LEDs work fine for an older vehicle, but seems like they do.
And about the light quality - that's a good question, yet these come as sealed beams and should be aligned already (at least that's how I think it works).
Something went wrong with my picture, as it did not upload the right way. And I do not seem to find another way to upload it as an attachment.
So I am posting the link to that Bronco I was talking about....
