It needs a live data feed and won't work offline. Google Maps will work offline if you download the map you need to your phone.

use Navfree when abroad?

It downloads to your phone for free so you don't use data.............

you have to download the country before you are in the country though - or it has a cost associated

I like it except when it guides me down small side roads that cross main roads. e.g.

It does that a lot on the A30 down into Cornwall to try and jump ahead. Not a chance you're getting across that when there's a queue of VW camper vans as far as the eye can see!

indeed - it's a ball ache on the Motorbike - as I can filter, and it doesn't know - so it thinks I'm a car and I need to go down all the crazy back routes.

They actually have a Motorbike option for the graphic of your vehicle - I was kind hoping that would soften the algorithm on the traffic diversion

I tend to work out where I’m going first, make my route and then use the satnav to help me along if needed. If you’re after twisty roads and a decent ride the best I’ve come across is Calimoto - it’s designed for riders and has been massively improved in recent versions. Good for bend hunting in unfamiliar territory...Waze is strictly a commuting tool, that’s what it does but again don’t rely on it or you’ll be taking all manner of ridiculous ‘short cuts’ which invariably require you to go down some stty roads. The police warnings are pretty reliable in this country though!

It uses motorcycle data if you tell it your vehicle type is motorcycle. So yes it knows you are a motorcycle and uses other motorcycles as reference.

"First is a mode designed specifically for motorcycle riders that provides recommendations for the best route based on data pulled in from fellow motorcyclists, which is a little more valuable than sourcing those calculations from cars"

This is enabled via the setting of vehicle type (as i pointed out), not by changing the pretty picture on the screen as mentioned here:

Which as pointed out happens.

List of updates December 2017: Source: MCN
Improved routes based on information from fellow motorcyclists
Better arrival time estimations that may vary from automobile ETAs
Routing on narrow roads where cars are not permitted
New motorcycle cursor for vehicle type; new motorcycle moods available to all Wazers
Talk to Waze feature. Say 'OK Waze' to activate voice commands, send reports and more, with your hands on the handlebars at all times

I didn't know that - it doesn't seem to work. As every day it tries to send me down side roads when I can easily filter.................

I use Waze purely for the fixed/mobile speed/traffic light camera alerts when driving to places I've never visited before - Other than that I'll use Apple Maps as it's the only map service which is integrated into Apple CarPlay.

Maybe a few things:
1) you haven't changed the vehicle type.
2) no one else has changed vehicle type and has filtered down the traffic to give waze the information it needs to know it is faster for motorbikes to go that way
3) it just doesn't work....................................................................

Waze works just fine offline, you just need to plan your route while online and not shut the application down - it caches the route. Of course you don't get any of the traffic information updating during the drive though but that is the same for anything while offline.

Absolutely. And it still works as well, if not better in some cases, as it did before they owned it. What point were you making again?

Agreed. I had it working all over the Highlands last year - I don't understand how people are struggling with this...

I used Waze for 95% of the journeys that I make and I can't think of a time where it has let me down.

...Other than when it sent me through an abandoned quarry whilst quadbiking round Corfu last summer.

People saying how they think google is better/prefer it etc - clearly the google M/A team didn't think so.

Navmii is vastly superior
In what way? Does it recognise traffic problems and re-route as quickly? Does it warn of Speed cameras etc

its been a while since i used it myself...has it changed much as I thought it was an offline system?
