When i cleared my fathers loft out last year i found a few old CB`s incl Cobra 148`s (jentec),a Ham jumbo,some Stalker`s, 3 superstar 360`s...and a belcom ls102

I have no idea where they came from and i have never had any interest but i see there is some value in them..
If the 148s are genuine Jentec conversions then they will be worth a small fortune. There's a lot of crappy modded rigs and fakes claiming to be Jentec originals though (some even use Jentec branded boards).

Rigs are probably worth more now if they haven't been screwdrivered to death. Jumbo will fetch a few bob just for its size and name. Stalker is attractive because it was manufactured by Uniden. Superstar 360 had a reputation for being a bag of ste and a bleedover box (Cybernet imitation of the Cobra 148) but they have a supersensitive tuner that works well for DX these days because of the lack of local transmissions swamping the receiver (one benefit of the craze dying down) plus you can replace the IF filter with a dual crystal job to clean up the noise.

I had a Superstar 2000 (or rather the rebadged CTE International version) - a beefed up 360 that was unique in having a 50 position channel selector rather than the usual 40.

Ah - it's all coming back to me!

I dont understand - if you have to use the damned things then youre best advised to buy a new set. Old sets are crap, and tend to operate in a poor fashion compared to a new CEPT radio.

It must be nostalgia?

Thanks for the info,i have done some delving regarding the superstar 360`s and they seem to be the same as the Cobra 148 (uniden board) and are of similar age (early 80s) and i have no idea if the cobra`s are genuine Jentec or not but i plan to fire them all up this weekend via a 12 volt battery. The Jumbo just plugs into 240v which is handy...

Cool! Just don't key them up without an antenna or dummy-load plugged into them as the high-powered rigs will blow their final transistors faster than a 15 year old having his first tug!

Anyone remember Alans CBs, located on the A74 just north of where the M6 turned into the A74, southbound side?

I was the rig doctor there for about 1.5 years until it closed.

I still have his soldering iron and the parts drawers full of spare output transistors and audio chips and everything else. Had a huge box of scrap rigs that we cannibalised parts from but binned it years ago.

Ah, it was fun talking crap to the regular truckers who pulled in for a break during the evening shift.

Still have some old CB rig somewhere, but moved over to ham radio but haven't touched that in years - just not the same craic.

I remember borrowing an old AM rig and sitting up all night trying to make out distant voices. It seemed exciting being able to share a few words with some trucker in Nevada from a room in a small house in Kent thanks to an old CB radio.

Looking at it now it a pretty cool design!
