Hi All, over the last month I have noticed a mole on my chest getting bigger, its quadrupled in size, scabbed and is now bleeding. So have managed to get a doctors appointment for this coming Wednesday. I think that all she will do is have a look and refer me to a specialist. So main questions are what is exactly going to happen in the next few months? Have tried to find something on search but not to any depth. Time frames, biopsy stuff etc further tests. I know its not the nicest subject to ask but any help would be appreciated. ............................many thanks

And while its probably just a scabby mole you will be sent to hospital on a 2 week cancer pathway to see an expert

Which is exactly what happened when I had a 'gentlemans problem' which in the end was nothing to worry about but the NHS came up with the goods in spades to help my nerves

Good luck

You will get proper info on Wed!

However..

I had some moles on my back I was not happy with, however they were not overly worried about. They arranged for me to go in and have them removed. Local anesthetic, it was amazingly un-sore, did not feel a thing! They cut the mole out deep and wide, then stitched me up. Biggest concern was I was not allowed to go swimming or donate blood for a while.

A while later I got my results back from the lab agreeing there was nothing to worry about with the moles, they were not the bad type.

I can still JUST feel the indent where the mole was.

+1 for the NHS and it's cancer pathway. I thought I had a tumour in my balls, turned out it was just a left over from puberty and normal. Those 2 weeks are hell though. But the main thing is you're going to the doctor. Many people don't until it's far too late.

Watching this closely. I'm the kind of pasty drink of water who could get skin cancer looking at a holiday brochure & I have an angry mole on my forearm. Seeing the Doctor on Thursday, hoping for a quick resolution & maybe the second one to be cut out in the past twenty years.

Not sure if this helps

I had one come up on my chest. Never bled but came out of nowhere didnt even realize i had one there.

Gp said its nothing currently but if left alone could become something so it had to come off.

Got referred to dermatologist it was zapped off in 2 seconds with what was like a car cigarette lighter, and that was that.

Cannot remember the term but it was a benign blood-filled mole. So yeah although it never bled i guess it could have. There was no follow up needed

Best of luck OP.

I'm pasty. Get sunburn a lot. When i was about 13 a mole got all frisky on my back and started growing and bleeding. Thankfully it was nothing to worry about and they just whipped it off under local. Turns out it only bled because it stuck out and I must have been catching it somehow.

Only posting this because if you start googling things, according to the internet everything is cancer. IMO it's only because of the "Porsche IMS failure" effect - the tiny percentage of people affected (understandably) post about it - and the 99.999% who are not don't. Hope the next 2 weeks aren't bad for you - the odds are certainly in you favour (c. 1:10,000 in USA, which is sunnier than we are).

hi all, just an update on the mole. Seen the dermatology doc today at 10:00am this morning after a few more weeks than the 2 weeks mentioned, and by 14:00pm was under the knife. A bit fast is an understatement ! Anyway, on the sheet was "Exision to melanoma on right of chest" so, not 100% confirmed until another 3 weeks wait for the results from pathology. Was watching throughtout procedure so seen the hole, looked deep too. Mole was about the size of a 5p piece but hole was the size of a £2 coin and 1/2" deep. 15 stitches later, anti-biotics and 1/2hr and off back home. No pain just skin feels tight. Doc will call me back in for a chat when the results are back. So hopefully all is well and that is that.

Glad to hear it’s hopefully been sorted. Just out of interest, being a pale skinned type, have you been the sun tanning type in the past Uglymug ?

hi all, sorry deiselgrunt for the late reply, not too fair, not very fussed about taking shirts off etc as am hairy and dont like the way people look at me, never have, never will.
Anyway, had recall from doctor to say, yes I have skin cancer. So need to go back in and have another op only a bigger one this time as they did not get rid of it the last time. Also a CT scan. I was quite shocked when she said its confirmed as I had convinced myself that I was OK. Mrs Ug is not good tho.The bit that got me was as soon as she said it she thrusted the McMillan book on me and called a McMillan nurse in, as if I get any questions I need answering is to contaact her. All very quick in an out in 15 mins. Then queue to get bloods done. Waiting for appointment now etc.

Do you want me to keep updating as I go along or not as its not the best subject to write about...........ta like UG

Damn. Good luck getting it all sorted for once and for all.

Do keep us updated, it's probably good for you but also there are people (mainly middle aged men) who read the threads who don't usually post and your experiences may cause someone to get a dodgy mole checked out.

Your local Macmillan centre will be good for support especially on the mental side of things. They also do stuff like free massages and meditation classes to deal with the stress. (I volunteered at one for 10 years.)

I had one cut out on the back of my neck as it was always bleeding after scrumming, it was sent away just in case but no issues.... I bled like a sonofabh when the procedure was done though.

hi all, just an update. I was supposed to have had a second but larger excision this coming Monday to remove more meat, all down to some guide, bigger the mole , the bigger the hole. Anyway had a phone call from the Doc to say all was well with the CT scan. But, she was discussing myself and a few others who are at this stage of diagnosis with the local panel of specialists and wanted to know if I would have an option of something called "Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy" ( BeeBopsee ). This entails an injection of a blue dye into the area of the mole. Tracing it thru the chest to one of the lymph nodes in the armpit. If there is no sign of the dye then the cells have not reached the lymph node. If it turns blue then they will open me up under general and remove it or other nodes etc. While doing this they might do the second larger excision on my chest to be on the safe side. I will still be booked in for another CT scan in six months. This SLNB will be done in 6 to 8 weeks time, yeh xmas time, Never mind................TTFN .......Ug
