Have we not moved on from this technology which I thought had questionable legality? Ditto our collective mind-sets about the mental energy & attention required in attempting to beat the system or circumnavigate around it. Sadly I fear we have an increasing population that under no circumstances will they be told what to do due to bad lazy parenting or just selfish bloody-mindedness. We are about to see this proven with devastating consequences in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic. However back to subject of the need for a speed camera detector......
I have a speed detector whether I want it or not on my boggo basic Tom Tom. It bleeps when:
I'm exceeding the posted limit.
When approaching a fixed speed camera/red light camera.
When approaching the location of mobile speed cameras.
When approaching accident black spots.

Laser detectors don't really work. Radar detectors are pointless. Laser jammers are illegal.

Waze is free. Use it.

As above, Waze is best now, live updates as you drive about mobile scammers which is the most important feature, but also all fixed sites. Free app to download on your phone. It's not foolproof but it's pretty good

Laser detectors do work, but if you are at the head of a line of cars it won't prevent you getting a ticket.

If mounted high on the windscreen they can detect laser splatter from the cars ahead and can give you chance to slow before it's your turn to be pinged. I know this because it happened to me several times.

Don't rely on Waze, the mobile cams only stay in location for a very short time then move on.

Fair comment although I fail to see the relevance of quoting the car, one can speed in the grandmothers Jazz. With the best will in world we can sometimes be distracted even momentarily & I like the aural reminders when I'm speeding which would have saved me from my last speeding offence 12 years ago. I was so pre-occupied with what had been a difficult day at work I trundled through a 30mph limit at 45 & as I learnt later got caught by a camera van which must have been hidden in the shadows of the tree lined road I used almost daily. I'm darn sure an audible warning of it's likely presence would have alerted me.

I marked a speed trap on Waze last week. That was the first time I’d got to one first and loaded it’s location for other Wazers.

That felt good but I just hope the bar stewards didn’t get me.
