Car Mini Disc with MDLP capability....?
Discussion
NetMD was an alright idea with terrible implementation. Awful drivers and limited to WinXP. To make it (far) worse, SP was LP2 with fillers due to an unresolved licensing issue, meaning that everything recorded on a PC was of a lower quality.
More recently a couple of people have developed up to date replacements, which work with Win10 (you can make NetMD work on Win7 & Win10 but it is a PITA) and record SP at full bitrate. I haven't used it myself as I've got a Tascam MD350 for recordings with a PS/2 keyboard for titling, but it seems to work well.

I continued the self flagellation of NetMd by moving to Sony's new MP3 player the NW-HD1 when that came out.
Amazing quality kit, beautiful fit and finish, with the worst piece of software ever, SonicStage - though I didn't learn as the HD1 was complemented by a NW-A1000.
I finally cracked and bought an iPod touch.

Just to add my contribution....I have no idea why my pal wants to persevere with MD for his car, but he asked me the question so I put it on here ...!!
I have learned quite a lot since this morning....PH at it's best...!!
I am not into tech as much as some folk on here, but even I could discern a difference in that the sound quality from my 'basic' Sony Walkman NWZ-E384 as compared to my Apple iPhone SE when played via the aux socket in my car, which has a really good sound system: the Sony sounded 'better' to me.
Re the Mini Disc, it has echoes of the Betamax/ VHS story in the 70's....

Blast from the past - I used to spend a bit of time keeping the car stuff on minidisc.org up to date.
It's still there if you want to find some likely model numbers to stick in ebay: http://minidisc.org/car_table.html
I always wondered who did this. Thanks! It's still there if you want to find some likely model numbers to stick in ebay: http://minidisc.org/car_table.html
I have a Sony Minidisc head unit in the garage. It's been there for years. I have no idea whether it works. I'd stick it on eBay but I have no way of testing it. The face part is on its own plastic case.
I also don't know if it plays MDLP. I'll dig it out and take some pics. If anyone is interested, drop me an IM.

Whilst I have so much more content nowadays thanks to Spotify, I think the variety makes it harder to truely discover and get into a band, it's easier to just be overwhelmed and listen to the same old stuff or have the new content "curated" for you.
Totally agree with this. I have an MD head unit in my 2005 E91:

My son reminded me that I let him sell it on eBay last year. I totally forgot. I also don't know if it plays MDLP. I'll dig it out and take some pics. If anyone is interested, drop me an IM.

Not sure if it would suit the car, but if interested let me know. Given a chosen charity I would send for free.
Thanks for the offer : it's a bit tricky being as my friend is the one who is after the MD player...!If yours can play MDLP he will be interested I am sure, but if it does not than I will pass.
From the posts above if it says MDLP on the front then it should be OK...?
