Tracker location

Is it usual practice to have the tracker right near the battery?

The reason I ask, is the car went in for a service recall and they didn't reconnect the tracker. So I had a gander myself and the tracker is right next to the battery. So I reconnected it.

I always assumed they were hidden....

That is unusual. On my last car it was behind the clocks. Obviously I'm not going to state where they are on my current fleet, but all are hidden well out of sight.

They should also have an internal battery in case the power is cut (it isn't clear either way from your post).

Should be hidden if it's an installer-approved one, not very subtle putting it right next to the battery.

There are alot of low cost trackers that are made with short leads, designed to fit next to the battery.

It was a Metatrack one, which is maybe on the lower end of the spectrum.
I think it does have an internal battery but that didn't last more than a day or two.

Maybe I'll call the installer tomorrow to query.

The lead from the tracker wasn't the longest but it may have been coiled up.

MetaTrak trackers are generally Thatcham approved devices apart from the MetaTrak Shield which is the self monitored solution. Thatcham devices require to be hidden behind at least one piece of trim so firing it on the battery is a no no, so I suspect (giving the installer the benefit of the doubt) that it's a self monitored system you have.

Nope S5 VTS, which is Thatcham approved.

Spoke to the installer and apparently it's in that location as anywhere else upsets the Bluetooth modules in the car. He has tried it on other locations on previous installs of similar cars.

Not really too sure what to say/do.

Have you spoken to Meta re this location being the only one that ‘works’ ?

It’s obviously decidedly easier to mount it where he has and it doesn’t sound ideal from a security point of view ….

As a MetaTrak approved installer, who installs many of these monthly, that wouldn't wash with me I'm afraid. What did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking?
