Much depends on the car, passengers and roads.

Hard car with small tank, lots of noisy passengers, and twisty narrow potholey roads = stop every 1-3 hours.

Wafty car with big tank, solo, and straight smooth roads = stop every 4-8 hours.

NEVER more than 3 hours. You might THINK you are alert but it is rarely so. Pride, especially male pride can come before accident or incident.
I would suggest this is false, because HGV and coach driver regularly do 4.5 hours straight, have 45 minutes break and then do another 4.5 hours.
And look at some of the smack-ups!

But! How many are linked to tiredness? One horrendous crunch in my part of the country when an artic turned over and blocked the road was due to a relatively new woman driver driving down the short slip road the wrong way, the trucker swerved to avoided a head on, luckily for her.
