A bit of thread resurrection. Living at the other end of the country made arranging a session a bit of a challenge
Finally succeeded in doing so last weekend in conjunction with a visit to friends in Chorley.

Arrived a little earlier than the appointed time and went for a walk to admire the view.
Returned to the car and shortly thereafter I clocked a car with a distinctive VRM gliding towards me.

I can endorse everything which has been said. Great instruction from a really nice guy.
A brilliant day and now I have to put all that I learned into practice. smile

A pity the roads where I live are such ccensoredp in comparison with those we used.
I'll also have to get up with the dawn chorus to avoid being sat in a traffic jam. C'est la vie.

I'll worry about having to pay for the fuel when the credit card bill lands on the mat... biggrin
Nothing beats a late night/early morning run out! Your credit card should be fairly safe. I always find I get the best fuel economy, even when going for a blast, at times like that. There's not much to get in your way, so you don't have to keep slowing down and speeding back up... I'm glad you enjoyed your day with Reg, I need to get back out with him again soon if he has time. smile

Can relate to the OP's comments regarding the level of concentration, and how mentally exhausting driving can be, when you are really focused on trying to improve - having been doing a police driving course over this past fortnight (one week still to go). Amazing how much you pick up from a relatively short time with a good instructor.
I'm glad it's not just me! I've been out with Reg again since I wrote this thread (the write up is on here somewhere), but I still go quiet when I'm driving lol. You should start a thread with some stories/observations about your course if you get chance mate, I'm sure we'd all love to read it. It's true what you say about a good instructor. I took a lot from my RoSPA course, but going out with someone as experienced as Reg was another world entirely. Good luck with the course. smile

As a recent 2nd place winner of the PH Win on Wednesday competition I experienced a Saturday morning advanced drive out with Reg Local in the North West.
My MX5 NC nicely warmed up driving from the south coast the previous day I was ready for whatever the day brought. The weather conditions were mixed which whatever my initial apprehensions did not affect my enjoyment of the drive. Reg's calm, inciteful instruction which allowed me to experience new ways to expand my knowledge, enjoy my driving and enlarge the envelope of my cars capabilites. Thankyou PH for the win on wednesday competition and Reg Local for his time with the winners. - Andy W.
