WD39 has not moved very far away, though, has he?
Are you trying to ascertain whether he is still alive or not?
Alive and kicking. It was just his time to merge in turn, but not pushing in, obviously.

Here is a question I don't think has been covered.

Around somerset and the A303 you find a lot of long ques with the second lane 2000 or so yards before the merge not being used.

Do you A) Que like sheep in the left lane and not request using both lanes to merge in turn as signage shows.

Or

B) Gently make your way done the right hand lane and hope you can find a slot.

Option B and merge in turn at the merge point, forcibly by moving ever more O/S/NS if necessary

I know that stretch (about half a mile, followed by 50 mph, am I right?). My approach is as follows:
I might be in the outside lane. Then I realize that it's not just a slow lorry and sheep.
I will merge fairly quickly. I don't think I've ever seen the queue backing up onto the roundabout in a way that causes problems. So there's no point in going down the outside lane, waiting until the last moment, then forcing your way in. Because given that queuing:
A) People will think "kncensoredb" and not make a gap.
B) The most progress you're conceivably going to make is about 1/2 mile. Sounds like a lot, but given that the next stretch is NSL DC, that's not as significant as it appears (and 1/2 mile is theoretical).
Just try and merge reasonably quickly, you will find a slot.

Time controlled bus lanes are another great one.

People wont drive in a bus lane irrespective of what the sign says, there is a long one in the way into Tonbridge Wells, queue was a good few hundred metres long. A bit of tooting when I made the merge point...

Depends what vehicle I am in, mx5 I follow the 1st posted suggestion, tap the breaks and merge in behind. My 4x4 or one of the work vans (normally with 3.5ton tri-axle in tow)... just keep merging... biggrin

If people are being sensible, then indicate, move in.

If people are being dicks, just move in with authority, no indication. Driving a shed or a land-rover helps. They always brake in the end because it will be 50:50 at best.

If people have been dicks, and are laying on the horn, apply punishment by leaving a massive gap and waving all the cars in from the other lane. This sends them apoplectic.

I think I missed that section in the Highway Code.

Likely to have been covered a million times already but this section of road heading in to Chester is a good one. To me the arrows indicate the left lane ends.

Today I was where the silver car was, let someone in in front of me (No issue for me), yet the taxi that was on my left (his front wheel level with my back) decided accelerating into my left side and drive down the cycle lane to presumably not let me in or teach me a lesson. I maintained a safe speed and lane position but he just kept accelerating into the gap on the left before a parked car stopped his progress. When he then started hand gesturing and pointing/pressing his dash cam.

Swiss put up "zip merge" signs.
and legally enforced too. with cameras everywhere else on the road maybe that's a way to encourage simple, logical civility?
Only in silly Britain is lane 2 mostly left empty before a merge.

Official APIS verdict: Taxi driver is a #/\];=-,. But we all know that anyway.
