Was chauffeur driven in an s-class the other day. It was Very smooth and didn’t feel at all like you were moving.
How do these drivers achieve such smoothness in their driving? Any tips or tricks - it was quite relaxing imo

Auto box.
See how slowly you can accelerate without getting tooted at.
Pretend you’ve got an open bucket of paint in the boot.

Good levels of space, visibility & time combined with good observation, anticipation & planning. Then utilise a decent degree of finesse & sympathy with the vehicle inputs.

Evening all,

Presumably achieved by looking well ahead of yourself, good preparation, seeing how little throttle can be used to accelerate. Easier in an automatic car though

Had a family friend who taught me some of these skills when I first started driving.
They were invaluable in earning my rep as a good driver. Autobox helps, but here is a great example of refined inputs for smooth ride

Chauffeurs are taught that if the person in the back demands they step on it and hurry up they swing the car about a bit, use the brake sharply but they never ever go over the speed limit. It's just gives the passenger an illusion of speed.

Easy to drive like that.
1. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the destination.
2. Don't listen to rock music or anything with a fast beat (Classic FM is a good bet)
3. Relax
4. Leave the wife and kids at home.
5. Don't give a lift to the mother in law.
6. Smile while driving and wriggle your fingers every 5 minutes, this helps with stress.
7. Accept other drivers around you can't help their idiotic behaviour.
8. Don't have a car with a booming exhaust.
9. Set temperatures to your optimum comfort zone.
10. Learn how to be patient.

Just smiling while reading this.

Just returned from a journey which included town work in my TVR with a juddery, heavy competition clutch. I would not have won any prizes and I was trying!
