Hi,
I performed a u turn at a junction today. I wasn’t speeding, checked both sides of road very carefully, indicated right and came back around the island and back on myself. There was no signs to say ‘ no u turn’ or anything so I assume it would be legal.

However to my right as I was performing my u turn on the main road was a mobile police speed van. Now like I say I wasn’t speeding at all. Do they only get you for speeding? I’m not sure why but I’m worrying somehow I did something wrong such as cannot perform a U turn there or something!!

Thanks

Speeding while performing U-turn would be exciting!

You'll be fine OP, they're only looking for speeders

There's a reason no u turn signs exist...

And no right turn signs as well, for that matter.

Hi there was no signs at all! No signs to say I couldn’t do a u turn here or no right turn!

I always prefer to use the hand brake in this scenario keeps it legal then.

What do you mean? I handbraked at the junction indicated right waited for traffic to go and then performed my u turn in one go. Didn’t affect any other traffic but just wanted to check it was legal really in the eyes of a mobile police van!? Like I said no signs were up to say I couldn’t do a u turn there etc

Depends on how you performed it, and what else was present.the absence of a ‘no U-turn sign’ doesn’t make the action legal in itself.
So you came out of a side road, into a main road, and back down the same side road, going round a bollard?

Yes that’s correct, it was a very wide road too, but I came down the side road, indicated right waited for traffic to pass then u turn back up to the road I came down going around a bollard( centre bit) the mobile speed van was sat to the right on the main road not on the side road.
