I'm going to state the obvious!!
You should check the hand brake when you park the car, It's not as if someone will break into your car, with out causing so much as a scratch, release the hand brake and then lock your car back up, Or do you belive in poltergeist!!

Just because you had set the parking brake when you left the car it does not necessarily guarantee that it will still be set when you return to it. What is to say that the ratchet mechanism hasn't failed, or maybe, dare I say, you didn't quite put on as well as you tought? There is nothing to be lost by checking it and everything to gain.

Fair enough!
But if people would push the button in as they pulled the handbrake on it would easily out last the car!

LOL, by the time you've been through all that anyone you were about to give chase to would be in the next country!!

Hi there Lambo Cop,

In obvious agreement with you, might I suggest the following example?

"I am driving a Lamborghini Countach 4.0L car, driven through the rear wheels via a five speed gear box. I am familiar with the position and function of all the controls. Turning the ignition to the first stage, I am greeted by a bank of warning lights, indicating a circuit. Depressing the clutch and then starting the engine, all the warning lights have gone out (assuming they do!) except the brake light, indicating all systems are functioning normally. (Rare for a Lambo, I know! ) My doors and seat belt are secure. Passenger please check door and seat belt. Depressing the brake pedal for a few seconds, I am satisfied with the static brake test. Looking all around the vehicle and moving off when it is safe to do so." (Followed by moving brake test, as required.)

I've abbreviated my daily cockpit drill...

"I am sitting my 7. Driven through the rear wheels through a manual gearbox. Forwards sometimes.

Nothing has obviously fallen off overnight. Lights still there. Wings mostly intact.

It looks like someone has spilt a Maplin's catalogue on my dashboard. Don't know what the switches and dials do, but mostly they don't work anyway.

Handbrake. Can't really reach it. Think I'll pass. Footbrake seems to work.

No ignition to turn. This big red button looks tempting, though. Sounds good too. Check exhaust not fallen off.

Check harness - yup had a lot for dinner last night. Will need to adjust. Hop out to do that.

Did I put my steerng wheel on properly?

Headlights on. Mileage to trip.

Reverse gear. Nope not quite. Reverse gear? Nope. It's in there somewhere. Ah. There we are.

And off we go to work!

On my test, all I said was 'the doors automatically lock above 2mph - just pull the lever to open them'. And that was it
