A lithium battery would look nice in there. You would be able to see the engine then.
orrr , get a slighlty bigger one ,and apply for hybrid status?
If you had a bigger battery you would not need the engine

Hi Timo, nothing much since the rolling toad session at Joolz place.

I've been tinkering with the cruising and part throttle mapping and have improved the economy and helped the low rpm smoothness. It will pull cleanly from 1000 rpm in 5th gear which is nice when pootling around.

Oil has been leaking from the head gasket on both banks of cylinders which I have put up with until recently. I changed to a higher viscosity oil, went to 20w60 from 10w40 which has reduced the drips on my garage floor considerably. My guess is that the oil is "wicking" through the gasket from the crankcase to the outside where it then runs down the block. I think it is worse on my engine because there is a "pool" of oil sitting at the point where the head meets the block caused because the heads are moved roughly 10mm away from the centre leaving a step. I'm not sure what the best solution will be but I'm sure Rob will sort it out.

Cheers Andy

These heads are now available from RPI Engineering, who now hold all production rights and production machinery. Whilst I've never tested them back-to-back with Rover heads, I have dyno tested quite a few engines equipped with these heads and always had good results with them. These have all been in Land Rover vehicles, usually Range Rovers or Discoveries.

There is a video on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/tornadosystems of a particularly nice Discovery II with these heads and an ACT triple-throttle Carbon Fibre Plenum on the rolling road if you wan to see them in action.

Timo,

Congratulations.

Is this the end of your modifications or do we have more surprises to come.

Phil

Nice results Timo.

Lets hope the head are reliable with your mods as they sound very radical.

A friend of mine tried a set of Merlin heads on his Griff last year & he had major problems, in essence, without major modifications to bodywork, manifolds & ancillaries the heads will not fit properly - in the end he gave up and went back to the original Rover heads. The same problems would be incurred trying to fit these heads to a Chimaera.

Hello all.

Happy new year.

Thought I’d resurrect this old thread and update it.

I’ve had an Emerald K6 on the shelf for years and finally dcided to fit it over the Christmas holidays to replace the ancient Motec M8.

Its early days yet but just got it running this evening and learning how to map it.

Good luck with the mapping!

I have always left that part to the professionals. Joolz is most helpful, (and good at what he does) if you need validation of your mapping.

How's it running apart from the ECU/mapping?

I also would recommend Jules for the mapping, his costs are very reasonable and his knowledge is superb.

Thanks Phazed and Rev-erend, I've used Jools a few times in the past and been very happy with the result. I am only going to map it enough to get it to him or Dave Walker.

Straight away it starts much more readily. Just got to get the Lambda working before I get much further.

I recently upgraded a 4.6L engine to a 4.8L with a 3rd stage rpi head and Tb72mm and stealth camshaft what do you recommend for maximum performance.

I am not sure what the question is.

I would’ve thought you’re looking at about 350 BHP and approximately 380 foot pounds of torque.

Sounds like a nice motor.

or just add gas. Its a bit cheaper.

My engine.... 4.6 with 4.0 pistons, real steel typhoon cam, 500 heads, decat, blended trumpet base, 72mm plenum and megasquirt. Gave 275 @ wheels on 95 ron petrol (V-power sold out due to panic buying).
Add some nitrous.... 418bhp and 440lb/ft for 0-100 in 7.5.
Love the use of past tense.. 'gave'

How is the rebuild going ?

Not really the 'thing' for majority of TVR owners. DangerousDerek may have used it at some point in their drag racing Chimp.

Might be better off posting in drag or off road racing (that is the Icelandic version of off road racing) forums.
