Agreed!

I looked at a white 240 with similar wheels a couple of years back but shat out in the end... or as the cool kids say "I didn't pull the trigger" and I've kinda regretted it since. Of all the Volvos I've had, I've never tried the RWD / proper stuff but I still find myself looking regularly.

Hard to get nice ones now given the banger boys, drifters and rust have all taken their toll on the number.
I did get lucky on an eBay auction with mine, but knew going into it the rust situation. Apparently the early cars rust less due to being built from British Steel, with later cars also being built in Belgium rather than Sweden.

If you are wanting to scratch the RWD itch then the 740s are a better steer

Just popping into this thread, purchased our first Volvo to replace the missus little Fiesta.

2011 XC90 D5 R-Design

Roof box will be coming off asap, we pick it up Monday.

Plans are to get some dents and scratches taken out of it. Gearbox fluid change and tidy up the front grill (it has the new style one but its discoloured)

Picked this up about 3 weeks ago - it’s a T8 Pro R-Drive. I didn’t want to wait 6 months so taken from stock so it’s the 400hp / 25 mile range version.

Likes so far:
- power and the transition between engine/motor works really well. Engine also much smoother than I was expecting.
- fit and finish inside, great seats, good stereo (even though it’s the Harmon one, not the Bowers which I hear so many good things about)
- the shadow lights are great as is the HUD.
- handling and ride was better than I expected (even with those massive wheels!)

Dislikes:
- Google system seems to work fine but it doesn’t feel like you can do much with it. I’d assumed it would come with a browser so you could search for places then jump to Nav, but no such feature. Voice commands seem limited to just the controls. In car Apps very limited right now, with Spotify being the only one I use.
- battery range waaayyy shorter than I expected. You have to do everything you can to get a start range of 25 miles but it then drops about 3 miles for every 1 mile travelled. So the expectation that I could do all local stuff on electric only is not being fulfilled. Hoping for better results when it gets warmer and battery has had a few more cycles.
- delivery service : various problems including that it’s a bit of a misbuild > the leather dashboard is plastic. I’m aware that there are supplier shortages leading to this sort of thing but was frustrated that I’d asked the dealer to forewarn me of such things and this wasn’t picked up. Turns out it’s the same for all deliveries right now. Too be fair, I was well compensated for this when I pointed it out.
- Instruction manual : why is it (not just Volvo) that you can’t have a proper instruction manual these days? Even if they don’t want to print it, then at least provide an e-copy that doesn’t comprise of 100s of snippets that you have to jump between to understand how a feature works. Seems all manufacturers are pandering to people with zero attention span.

I know my dislikes look longer than the likes but overall am really enjoying it. And no doubt a load more features will reveal themselves now that I’ve given up on the manual!

I had a 2018 BMW G05 X5. Having had BMW's for 20 years I got fed up with the dealers fighting to get stuff done under warranty. A week before my X5 was 3 years old I took advantage of the appreciation in it's value and bailed before the warranty ran out.

I was going to order a Tesla but instead spotted this near where I live. Went to have a look and really liked it! It has been owned by the same Chap for the last 8 years and had mountains of history and receipts. It has always worn Pirelli tyres. It's had an alternator, front springs, disks, pads, calipers, injector seals, handbrake cables, timing belt, water pump. Being an SE Lux it has heated leather, xenons, cruise control. It cost me £20 to tax it for 12 months and it is doing amazing on fuel.

I'm really enjoying the satisfaction of bangernomics and am enjoying this car more than the X5. It cost peanuts. The only problem is it is getting under my skin where I want to refurbish the alloys and spend a bit of money making it pretty much perfect. It has done 143k but drives brilliantly. Really happy with it. My first Volvo.

Great looking car thanks for the comments.

We are picking up a d4 awd inscription with lots of extras in a couple of weeks which was made at the end of January having ordered it last summer. Given your comments regarding the dash I’m a bit concerned that some of the tech may be missing. Eg if the 360 camera is missing it’ll be a real problem and may stop us taking the car as it was a big factor in mrs orse being confident to step up to the size of the xc60.

Anyone know if there is an issue with spec being commonly missed off?

I know the feeling well!

I bought an 07 V50 Sport with the rather unrefined 2.0D engine for my wife to use soon after our little boy was born, the logic being it was cheap (£1500) and big enough, safe enough and light enough for her to drive with minimal worries for a little while but that was four years and about 65,000 miles ago and it's still here. It's held various roles from her daily doing about 5k a year, to the main family car briefly, then my daily for 20k a year commute and then back to second car duties but now thanks to a company car, it barely moves week on week.

It was never immaculate but it slipped into the "shed" category after many miles of abuse but it's been a fantastic purchase - little has gone wrong and what has, has never been very involved nor expensive to rectify. Just before Christmas, it took pity on it and sourced replacement front wings as the originals were starting to bubble and then I sat back and wondered what I was playing at, wasting time and effort on trivial things like that but every time I drive it, I remember how much I love it and vow to invest some TLC on it... but then keep reminding myself its just a tool to use with zero worries.... then I take pity on it.... and so the cycle rolls on!

Come the better weather I'm going to spend a bit time on it, probably because I've spent weeks if not months debating what to replace it with but ultimately I've no desire to change it until it dies. It's just too good at what it does, more so given it owes me next to nothing... but rest assured, as soon as I start spending time and money, it'll throw a hissy fit and break down in spectacular fashion, so I might just continue to ignore it!

Tread carefully!

Yes, lots of reports at the moment of people turning up to collect their Volvo and finding unexpected spec changes e.g. wrong seats, wrong colour etc, not to mention all the semiconductor-related deletions which your dealer should have told you about. It seems Volvo just shove whatever they can out of the factory and if it's a customer order and the customer isn't happy with the changes, Volvo can sell it for more to someone else.

Its a bit worrying. We are due to pick up an xc60 Inscription with 360 camera, driver assist, pan roof etc and the dealer is being a bit vague about what is on it and what isn't. We weren't told about any deletions to the spec. The thought at the moment is to take it and if we are not happy just get rid of it for something somewhere that is in stock that we can see - obviously not another Volvo. With the deal we had we would probably get a profit on sale now.

Sorry for not spotting this one earlier. Yes, be careful to check what might be missing. My wife works for another manufacturer so we knew what we might be in for. How it went was:

- car was bought out of stock (was on the way from the factory when we reserved it)
- Vehicle order form had some edits as their systems are out of sync with the MY (eg they manually corrected the colour, which is an indicator of the challenges they face)
- I asked the salesperson to be clear that were no other spec changes to be aware of when ordering. Was assured there wouldn’t be.
- I spotted the dashboard problem as soon as we arrived to collect the car. I was immediately offered £500 off for this. As I wasn’t sure if it was just ours or not I called two other dealers. Interestingly, they both said the same model they had in stock was fine, then went to check and discovered it wasn’t! So it seems a common problem that dealers aren’t versed on what a car should have and are missing the comms to warn them of any spec change (our dealer did concede they found the memo after I pointed out the problem)
- in the end I got an extra £500 off (ie £1k in total) and got them to print the right spec sheet and sign that the car was consistent with this, in case I drove away and found this not to be the case!

I will say that the dealer was very apologetic and did everything they could to resolve. £1k was fair and I’ve got over looking at a plastic dash.

As per my earlier post the limited instruction manual means I continue to discover new stuff. I only found out the other day that the car self steers on cruise…! Still very pleased with it overall other than that the electric range is
Much less than I was expecting and hope this will improve with the weather.

Currently borrowing this 2005 XC70 from my Dad. Having been brought up with Volvos I have never had cause to own one myself, but am very fond of them.

I am really hoping to inherit it but may have to fight my sister for it biggrin

Not particularly fast or inspiring to drive. Not that I really noticed on the 105 mile round trip from home - back via the Cambrian Mountains on Wednesday evening. Hardly saw any traffic, and on the single-track road section (circa. 30 miles) bar a logging truck, no-one at all! I think the trucker was impressed I could actually reverse unlike the many tourists in SUV’s he is used to seeing up there laugh

Even though I never went over 40mph, and much of the time I was doing less that 30, I was still a thoroughly enjoyable driving experience. Definitely proof that you don’t need to be doing ridiculous speeds and cornering on the edge of grip to actually enjoy driving. spin

we have an XC90 as our family runabout.

We've done 60k miles in just under four years. Its the basic Momentum and a D5 diesel model but it's been a great car.

We changed it yesterday for a newer hybrid model. Old one on the left, new one on the right
