Is this possible? Is it advisable?

Presumably there are potential insurance ramifications, but if you use factory parts it should be safe, shouldn't it?

I need 7 seats and am trying to get away from SUVs/MPVs and manual petrol V70s are rare enough before I start looking at the boot.

It will depend on the year and specification...

It can be done, many phase 1 and phase 2 cars had them as standard but as for the insurance point of view, I guess it could be deemed a modification if it wasn't factory fit so would be tempted to double check...

Kits can be had for around £100.00 second hand and fitting is DIY with no specialist tools or skills needed, simple bolt in job and they fold away when not in use with no reduction in load space. They are also however, crap and cramped and I'd be very wary about having anybody travel in them.

An XC90 would be a better option... or a full blown people carrier,

Sorry, what's phase 1/2?

I don't need the extra seats often, but they are sometimes essential. And rear facing is arguably safer than front facing in the boot as their legs are at risk Vs their spines. Either way it's only for local journeys.

I'm also looking at V8 XC90s but they're rare as hens teeth too. And if I can get a V70 it can be her car so I can get something fun...

Insurance is an issue that I'll have to clarify, but if it's straightforward to do it's worth considering imo.
