Any Volvo chaps on here?

Volvo S60 2006 2.4D5 Auto has jusy flashed up anti skid service required, does anyone have any ideas before it goes on the computer? Are they notorious for anythig? the light appears to be intermittent

It will be your abs ring. Do you have access to a Vida dice? It should tell you the side although you may as well do both,

Reasonable job for DIYer or £150 ish at an Indy. They go at 100k due to corroded teeth, sends intermittent signal to the sensor

Check the axle bolts. They loosen, and cause this error. They are stretch bolts and need replacing if you find them loose.

ABS ring is another one, cracks and this causes the error.

Hmm coincidence - I've got a 2006 S60 and that warning came up last friday , yet again - this is the 3rd time

It's had 1 ABS sensor and one ABS ring already over the past year, which cured it for a few months each time, but its off the garage again on Thursday to see what error codes are present this time. From reading some of the vast number of google results for that same error apparently it could be anything from an ECU fault in one of 2 ECUs , the steering angle sensor , ABS wheel sensor , ABS ring , something called a clockspring (??) , one of the pressure sensors in the ABS pump , a loose axle bolt , old brake fluid , unicorn in the boot....

Frankly I'm sick of the stupid thing.

Try reading the codes if you have a reader so you can identify which ring has failed. Also be a little careful if this is the case as the ABS has a habit of kicking in at very low speeds with a cracked ring and as abs is designed to function under heavy, hard braking you'll lose braking efficiency and it can catch you out so keep your distance from cars in front

I bought a code reader that was supposed to work with the Volvo via OBD2 (an Autel Maxiscan I think it was) and although it will connect it will only show me error codes relating to the engine and transmission, it won't show anything else, which was annoying.

I owned a 2005 S40 T5 for nearly 10 years, and, started getting lots of those type of messages on the dash. A new battery cured it.

It maybe your dim (speedo cluster) the connections go and make it look like you have faults on the car when there is nothing wrong.

I had this on a 2004 V70 and a colleague on a 2006 C70 and there is a common fault with the ATE Teves Brake Control Module (BCM). They were about £800 from Volvo but they can be repaired by ECU-Testing and the price of a new one is half that now.

If you get codes from VIDA that are about communications between controller and pump, brake pressure sensors, st like that, then it's the BCM fault. It needs to get the codes read with VIDA to even begin, before you start throwing parts at it.

Hells bells sounds like anything, I’ll grt it on the computer, does it have to be Volvo equipment to diagnose?

I bet the expensive multi manufacturer stuff that garages have could probably do it too. Generic OBD reader will not give you anything.

Yeah apparently there are 2 ECUs that could cause the issue, one in the front and one the rear?
I guess thats the next step if no mechanical fault is found , send them both off to EcuTesting to see if they can find anything wrong with them.

I've not heard about anything other than the BCM computer (which is fixed to the ABS pump) being at fault. Be warned that when I sent my BCM off about 5 years ago they couldn't fix it and I had to buy a new one. I think the problem has become very widespread among Volvo and others so there is now more awareness and expertise at repairing them.

Had this come up on my V70 2006 reg a few months ago. Local garage diagnosed an error in the sensor. Replaced sensor at wheel (very easy), but problem persisted. Changed ABS rings myself, (fiddly but doable and cheap) Cured problem completely. Rings suffer corrosion underneath which splits them thus confusing the sensor. Lots of videos on internet on how to do it.

+1 for abs ring. Mine had split due to corrosion, giving the same warning. Nearly took the sensor with it but luckily was still ok.

Luckily for me (and the wallet) it turned out to just be a cracked and thus water-damaged ABS sensor , phew.

its came back as steering angle sensor so not the end of the World, what is a bummer is that the bulb out is not an easy fix, its needs a full bi-xenon unit, hens teeth, does anyone know any good breakers?

you could try a site such as 24/7 spares or 1st choice breakers.
