I think the question was hinting at
" Do they need tohave MORE tread left than legal minimum"

as an example - 3 mm left etc.

And another thing on the tyre wear- I've mostly driven the thing like a grandad, they're Michelins and they'll be illegal before 18k miles.

I comfortably got 14/15k miles out of Super Sports on the back of an e39 M5. What gives?

23 degrees? Firstly, too warm! Secondly, not an even number. Does not compute. Car heating OCD engaged.

That is melting. I'm usually down at the 19 mark with the S90.

I wasn't impressed either, you can see by my average MPG in the pic that that I don't hoon around, mostly long motorway schleps ( apart from this week) and I got 20k out of the fronts. If it's any consolation it took 5k to get the last 1.5mm away, I think the wear rate slows as they get smaller.

For those that have been getting the extension call from Santander at the end of your lease offering an extension are you leasing via Santander as part of their 123/current account leasing or are you leasing via Volvo Financial Services which is ultimately Santander?
I am the latter so wondering on the likelihood of a call.
Many thanks

I am leasing via Volvo Financial Services but the call for the 2nd 6 month extension came from Santander who I have had no contact with prior to this.

I would 100% agree with that I got 30k out of the fronts on my s90 D5 (the rears still have about 4mm left at 40k) the first 2-3mm went in the first 5k but the rest seems to wear slowly. It is running on 21s so could it be due to the 35mm profile??

Had the same on my last V40 and looks to be the same on my XC40 - Michelin Primacys wearing rapidly to start with and then slowing right down. After 6 months I projected they wouldn't last 10K, but they had 5mm left at 20K.

  • warning tenuous anecdotal evidence follows*
A frend of mine told me that the garage he took his puncture to says they rarely get fairly worn tyres in for puncture repair.
He says the rubber hardens over time so newer tyres are softer and therefore more prone to punctures.
This would tie in nicely with the wear rate anoomaly that we are discussing.
It makes sense but it could also just be murphy's law that you only get punctures on newish tyres.

My V90 went back at 20k with 2mm still on the front tyres.

Can anyone inform me if it's ok to place budget tyres on the car before it goes back?

check about 18 posts up.
That's what the santander contract says. Doesn't mention brand.

So, my V90 CC went back in the autumn. I was billed about £400 for a few (admittedly deep) scratches on the nose. The rest of the car was immaculate. The collection guy noted them but also said that although he had to report, I should contest as wear and tear. I did that, Volvo put the end of lease charges on hold while they looked into it. I haven’t heard anything since September. Is it safe to assume they aren’t bothered?

Does anyone have a link to the contract? Sods law we were meant to being on a long trip for Christmas and wasn't sure if the tyre's would be legal for return so got two new tyres put on. Didn't go on the trip due tp the new covid regs then hit a pothole and put a big hole in the side wall on an 8 miles old tyre.

I'm in a rural location and can get some Hankooks fitted today but not sure on the premium argument. Got 2 Bridgestones on prior to Christmas. It goes back at the end of next week and will be difficult to get away with work commitments and santander are closed so can't ask direct.

You’ll be fine with hankooks. They were fitted to my S4 when it was delivered.

I rang them this morning. Same size and speed rating is all they care about. Nothing else. I have put mid range tyres on mine as it goes back start of March but I can do an informal extension until August - that would require a second service however.

28k miles from the Contis that my V90CC came with. Think that’s ok.

It’s probably been covered but does anyone know what the year 2 service cost is likely to be on the V90CC?
