I’ll try to report back on that when it arrives. Believe it could be several months potentially. Kept the standard wheels and gone with Amazon Blue.

Not a fan of diamond cut wheels as they are a pain to repair but seems every manufacturer is churning them out.

Apparently ours has ETA mid May and we ordered end of March. Maybe due to options or spec selected?

Ordered my first edition xc40 in February for the wife ,and still no arrival date from the dealer , all I have heard is from dealer Volvo have ran out of 20 inch wheels so having to have 19 inch also headlamp washers won’t be fitted because ran out of them to, so Volvo are offering £350 of purchase price , not very happy I wanted the 20 inch wheels and they will not let you upgrade to the 21 inch wheels as a option for another £600 as listed on the Volvo options web site
So I have told dealer I will get some 20 inch wheels and tyres ( after market) deliverd to them before arrival
I have purchased many new cars never a Volvo and never come across this running out of wheels and headlamp washer jets and dealers not knowing arrival dates , the only reason I have not cancelled order is because now Volvo have sold all allocations on xc40 first edition

Same here ordered 2nd March and no delivery date but dealer claims that Volvo has advised all First Editions to be fulfilled by June.

I've gone for 19" wheels so 20" shortages shouldn't be holding back my car.

On the subject of wheels, having previously gone for the biggest on a Porsche Cayman, I'd never go for larger rims in future. Worsen the ride, easier to kerb, harder to get winter tyres, puncture more easily. What's the point?

Also harder to clean and fascination with diamond cut means impossible to repair withoit sending to specialist.

I think Volvo designs on the XC40 look nice but would be a total pain!

Seems Volvo don’t have a clue here are responses to my asking them what’s happening with my order...

“Due to the phenomenal success of the Volvo XC40 and the car’s recent awards (What Car? Car of the Year and European Car of the Year), demand for our newest XC family member has far exceeded expectations and supply.

We are therefore working with the factory to allocate build slots and Snows will keep you informed when your order has been processed. This is however a long process due to the sheer volume of orders and may take some time to complete. “

I then asked when did they think I would get a date...

“I'm afraid not. We are working with the factory to clear the orders currently in 'holding' but we have no time frame for this activity.

The factory opened for these orders on week 12 and production for model year 2019 starts week 17. The original intention was to allocate the build slots between these two dates however the demand is such that this activity is taking longer than expected. Work is still ongoing and the retailer will be updated as soon as your order receives a build slot.

I am sorry that we cannot assist further at this time but can assure you that we working as fast as we can.”

Dealer has told me current dates are Sept to November... but that might change..

Off to try a Stelvio IPace and X2 next week

Well the wife called the dealer up last week and said we wanted a test drive. He wasnt fussed , which is a bit rude. They said they cant get any cars for probably next year now , as their quota is all gone. Seems that if your pcp runs out with Volvo before the date of an xC40 can be delivered, they are loaning you a car. Not sure what model.
So.................. we are going to have a look at the E Pace as well........... since they arent 'fussed' by my custom.............

Asked by my mum to look for her next company car and pretty much narrowed it down to a XC40. The specs are more than a little confusing though.

Am I right in thinking the difference between R-Design and Inscription is minimal? R-Design a bit more sporty and Inscription a bit more luxury? Digging into it there doesn't seem to much of a differentiation.

Surprised so much of the safety kit is optional even on the pro models.

With her allowance she's looking at T5 AWD Auto Inscription Pro with a couple of the cheaper packs on.

JLR dealers are worse than Volvo dealers in my experience so don’t get too hopeful. You’ll end up paying £10k more for the equivalent spec E-Pace.

My wife is loving her FD T5. Try calling a couple of other dealer or using CarWow to find which ones are keen to engage.

Must admit our dealings with Volvo have been just as poor as anyone I speak to with different makes of cars. Sometimes I wonder if dealers really are interested in customers and cars. Friends have Jags and seem reasonably happy with the dealers , so there is no harm in looking around .

My old man ended up getting his Jags from Oxford (he lives in Aberdeen) after appalling service from the local dealer. My local Volvo place were also disinterested when I went in. Nobody else there, lots of staff, not one person looked up or asked if I needed anything. Fortunately there are a couple of others near me, one of which were excellent when I looked at an XC60 a couple of years ago. Customer service is king, but you'd not think it based on some dealer experiences. E-pace styling isn't doing it for me either, can't quite put my finger on what it is though.

They’re short and fat looking compared to the F-Pace.

Did a bit of car searching today . Looked at the E pace. Seems very cramped in the front and almost claustrophobic. Boot wont fit the dog cage in. So looked at the F pace and that was too big. Also the paint on the cars were really bady rippled from heat used to dry them when painted. Seemed pretty poor for a car upwards of 40 grand. So, went to Mazda and looked at the CX 5 . New version with later front end. Didnt like it . Cage will fit in the boot. Not quite a 'premium' product , but shows in the price , i guess. Then went to Mercedes and had a look at the GLC. Its damn nice. Cage fits in with mm to spare. Very nice, but the price says that. Going to have a test drive in a couple of weeks , but being honest a bit over our price point.
So, we went for a drive in the XC40. Was a really nice car. Pretty impressed. Gearbox and engine seemed smoother than our XC60 , even though its the same one , as they put the new engines in the last of the old xc60 range , except added addblue to it. Tested a D4 car R design with panoramic roof. Certain engines like the T5 are short of/ non existent until probably next year, but we could if we went T4 non R design get a car in November. Driving on a dual carriage way and having the car steer and control the throttle was a strange experience , but something we probably wouldnt order . Wife seems keen, but although we priced the car up and got an immediate 2 grand discount, we will take some time to think about it.

Went to a dealership and saw a black & white one in the flesh and it looked a bit too bling to me, a bit Evoque. That but mainly the lead time had me walk out with a V40 instead on a short PCH.

However having seen the all-black one it looks miles better. Will probably end up buying one after the V40 expires.

I ordered the FE in March and was told the only one still available was on 19s and no washer jets... I didn't get any offer of a reduction in price! I did go on the event weekend though so they'd already knocked a bit off for ordering that day.

As for the dealer..... absolute shambles! Having paid the deposit the sales man said "I'm surprised you've bought it today without your husband here"..... if there'd been anyway to get the FE anywhere else I'd have cancelled it.... needless to say the manager received a complaint! My money.. my car... idiot!
