Does anyone own one? Any issues or problems? I quite like them as they are different. But unsure of what they are like? What the reliability of Volvo and service costs?

I own a 1.8 petrol r design
Reliability is bullet proof so far. I have only replaced some bulbs and two tyres in 3 years. Servicing is about average for a focus sized car £200ish for a yearly service. Thdy are alot more practical than they look. The boot can hold alot. I fitted a 40inch tv in the back with the seats down.

I've just sold my 2.0 C30 and am missing it already ! The are great little cars, very under rated and fairly rare. Mine used to get around 32mpg, so not great, but that does include a lot of time sat in traffic. I had it from 6k miles to 53k and the only breakdown in that time was a dead battery. The aluminium (I think) trim on the waterfall console is easily dented, but other than that I can't think of any problems with them.

If you need to get a pram or golf clubs in the boot don't bother, the boot hatch is tiny.

Fortunately not, kids have both now flown the nest, (woo hoo) and my hobby of choice is poker, although at times golf would probably be more cost effective.

Just fancied a car that suits the pair of us and was a bit different from Focus, and standard Jap type stuff.

VW Scirocco look ok as well, but Volvos look better deal for budget.

Compared to something like a Focus, it is a small opening.

I used to sell Volvo, it was a regular complaint from potential buyers.

I found the boot space was ok, it was just the small hatch size especially if you had the hard load cover

C30 was not aimed by Volvo for the family. It was to appeal to the younger singles that Volvo were not attracting at the time. Sort of entry to Volvo marque car. In this respect the rear hatch was not an issue and also the glass only hatch is a novel feature to set it apart from the normal eurobox.

I have a D4 (5 cylinder diesel).

Excellent car, I really like it. No problems after a year of ownership.

Are you specifically looking at petrol models? The 5 cylinder diesels are great engines. The 2.0 litre petrol is a Ford engine and gearbox, although reliability shouldn't be an issue.

The cargo size is ok, but the small hatch is a genuine pain in the arse, I've managed to fit a whole drum kit in mine but not without swearing a lot.

Ideally, I need a petrol, as I don't do the mileage for a diesel. I only do 6k a year.

Makes sense, I say go for it!

I had a 1.6L petrol, but I found it so underwhelming I sold it and bought a D4. The 2.0L should be fine though.

If you can find one with the top spec audio system, it's well worth it if you listen to a lot of music whilst driving.
