They've found themselves an almost unique niche in the mid range car market, for the buyer who wants to be cool, but doesn't want to be seen 'trying' to be cool.
Like the dad at the sidelines of a kids football match. He's not going to chase stray balls and try and do a Ramona flick kick back to the players....but he secretly hopes the ball comes his direction so that he casually flicks it into the air with one foot, back heel volleys it with the other, all the while with his hands still in his pockets
Not only that, they're owned by geely and have big electrification ambitions.Like the dad at the sidelines of a kids football match. It's their route direct into the European marketplace.

...and gets a blowjob from another kid's yummy mummy meanwhile.jamoor said:

Had the pleasure of sitting in a few new volvos today at the ocean race in Cardiff bay
My word. Why the hell would anyone buy any BMW, Mercedes or Audi over a Volvo.
So beautiful inside and out, light and airy interior. The most comftable massaging seats I’ve ever sat in, beautify crafted with light leather and lovely wood inlays, all the kit you could ever want, so much safety tech and just so relaxing to be inside. The b&w stereo is like nothing I’ve ever heard in a car
Utterly brilliant
Imo Volvo will be a major player in the next 8-10 years. My word. Why the hell would anyone buy any BMW, Mercedes or Audi over a Volvo.

I really wanted one of these but I just couldn’t get over how small the boot was!
Its the biggest boot in it's class!? V60 boot is bigger than Merc, Audi, 3 series etc....Depends whats important to you I guess.

Biggest boot seats up maybe (and is that to load line/parcel shelf level?), but seats down a smaller total load capacity than those others mentioned by a margin.

The new gen of Volvos are bloody lovely!
I agree. I've done a couple of longer trips in my colleague's new S90 now, and I have to say it really is a lovely thing. Material and assembly quality is as good as anything coming out of Germany, there's some great tech (e.g Pilot Assist) that's been well implemented, and all the traditional Volvo attributes of comfort, attention to detail, and the reassuring feeling of solidity are there in spades.
He got it as a stopgap on a cheap 2 year lease deal, but likes it so much, he's going to buy one when it goes back, albeit in a different spec.

Re: the 4 cylinder chat. I've a 6 cylinder BMW X6 40D with over 300 bhp - twin turbo, 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. My V90 T4 petrol 190bhp does that in 7.5 seconds so yes, a bit slower with a 4 cylinder but still not 'too' bad. You can spec them at T6 300BHP or even T8 twin engine at 400 bhp but that's a fair bit more coin to get into one of those.
I know my 4 cyl petrol still sounds ok - its certainly a more pleasant sound than the BMW 6 cyl, which is one of the better engines BMW has produced by all accounts. The Volvo petrol is nice and quiet when cruising and under load, while its a bit muted, it still sounds better than the BMW engine.
All bets are off of course when compared to a 6 cyl petrol - no denying that.
For those of us buying these Volvo on PH, a large majority are buying on attractive lease deals/PCP deals and even if Volvo did have a 6 cyl petrol, not many of us would be buying anyway due to the large price increase. You only need to look at equivalent lease deals on Audi/BMW/Merc etc for 6 cly deals - not many good deals around and if you do want one - its at least another 50% in terms of monthly cost. So the lack of a 6 cyl is a moot point for a large portion of potential buyers. I do appreciate though that for some, the lack of a 6 cyl option means they won't ever be going to buy these new Volvo's and I do understand the love that people have for those bigger engines.
Usual in depth review here. I think I’d give that seat fabric a miss, but a lovely car.

Just specced one on the website. 46k for a fully loaded one in Savile Grey.
The only thing I don't like about the current Volvo's is having to change the temperature via the touchscreen, it's a bit of a faff. Would prefer proper dials for temp control.
It's quite easy when you get used to it + voice control 'im hot or I'm cold' works well and adjusts the temp by 1 degree either wayThe only thing I don't like about the current Volvo's is having to change the temperature via the touchscreen, it's a bit of a faff.
