Hi all -

Does anyone know whether it's possible to sit 3 children in the back of an XC60, an 8 year old, 6 year old and a baby,

Thank you!

Thanks for the reply - what about with 2 seats and a booster?

I very much doubt it. There's only a tiny gap in the middle with two full size car seats.

My two are now on booster seats and the centre arm console only just fits down in between them.

Gut feel is that it would be tight on space (I think the 60 is a similar size to my wife's CRV and my son (9 this week) hates sitting in the back of that between his two sisters (3 and 2) who are in full size car seats.

No problem in my XC90 so that might be an option?

An old model XC60 with built in booster seats (part of family pack) is perfect for three young(ish) children with the addition of an extra booster cushion in the middle but you wouldn’t be able to do it with high back child seats.

Thanks for the reply - unfortunately I think an XC90 maybe a little out of our price range unless I can get a really good lease deal. Not many other options available!

Might be worth a conversation with a local dealer. I used a good guy in Oxford who was very helpful (who I found via Carwow).

It's a grand which I think represents good value when you consider the costs to change vehicle.

I suspect something like this would invalidate the warranty. Volvo are very hot on their safety and there's no way these rear seats would pass their warranty test. The modification could also affect the insurance.

Peugeot 3008 or 5008 may do the job. Hardly any SUVs seem to fit three across the back with seats - I have looked as I have 4 kids.

My advice would be to take your seats and try. The Audi Q7 is the only one that appears to have 3 full size seats across the middle row.

Our old XC90 - can do it as we use the central built in booster seat for the 7 year old. I am not sure if the new XC90 has one of these.

From all my research, the old shape XC90 is the only cost effective SUV to do a really good job of fitting in a large family - when our really old one finally dies, I will be buying the best old-shape one I can afford.
